    “It Was Actually Very Therapeutic”: Lupita Nyong’o Reveals How Her Character’s Cancer Arc On ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Felt After Losing Chadwick Boseman To The Disease

    A Quiet Place: Day One’ has garnered a lot of praise upon its release in June 2024. The apocalyptic horror film, directed by Michael Sarnoski, stars Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, and Djimon Hounsou. Nyong’o plays the lead role of a terminally ill woman caught up amidst the wreckage. 

    Recently, Lupita Nyong’o opened up about her role in. She said that the cancer storyline was therapeutic to film after she lost her ‘Black Panther’ co-star and friend Chadwick Boseman. Boseman died of colon cancer and it was hard on Nyong’o like everyone else who was shocked by the news of his death.

    While filming ‘Black Panther’, Lupita Nyong’o and Chadwick Boseman grew close and became friends. The Oscar-winning actress found it hard to deal with Chadwick’s death in 2020 due to colon cancer. However, in her new movie, Nyong’o stars as a terminally ill cancer patient who is in hospice care when the movie begins. This role felt very therapeutic to her. 

    The Black Panther’ star revealed to People, It was scary to have to go there.” Nyong’o said her character “is really facing their mortality, even before this apocalypse takes place, and whose life is slipping between her fingers. That was daunting to have to go there, psychologically and emotionally.”

    In a conversation with People, Lupita Nyong’o talked about her role in the latest movie. She said, “In the end, it was actually very therapeutic because I had just experienced not too many years ago the death of Chadwick Boseman, which shook me to my core.” Nyong’o added, “I definitely was thinking about that a lot.”

    The ‘12 Years a Slave’ actress continued, “What I came to realize is that it’s really important to be reminded of our mortality, because then we live life just a little more intentionally.” Nyong’o added, “When we think we have all the time in the world, we can really take people for granted and experiences for granted.” Nyong’o has publicly paid tribute to her friend and co-star many times in public and has said how much he has inspired her.
