‘John Wick‘ started as a story about a man’s quest for vengeance. As the franchise grew, it also became the story of the people who came into his atmosphere. Each character is intrinsically linked to his past. They guide his present life as he looks for friends and allies to defeat the High Table.
In ‘John Wick: Chapter 4‘, Keanu Reeves challenges Marquis Vincent de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård) for single combat. To obtain legitimacy, he seeks Ruska Roma to make him a member of their family. Suddenly, he finds himself with a noose around his neck, tortured by Katia. So, who is Katia? What does she mean to John Wick?
Katia Is John Wick’s Adopted Sister
Katia is a supporting character introduced in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4′. As the members of Ruska Roma are torturing John, we learn that the head torturer is his adopted sister. Like John, she was taken in as a child and raised by the Russian crime syndicate. Growing up together, John and Katia formed a familial relationship. But eventually, John cuts all ties with the organization.
Winston (Ian McShane) encourages him to travel to the Berlin Headquarters of Ruska Roma. When he asks about Pyotr, his father figure, he’s given an old-fashioned welcome. Katia, now the matriarch of the Ruska Roma, informs him of Pyotr’s death. She asks him to take a life to buy his way back into the family. She instructs him to kill another High Table member, Killa (Scott Adkins). Despite walking into an ambush, John kills them all. As promised, Katia reinstates him as a member of the family.

Future of Katia In The ‘John Wick’ Franchise
While only a minor supporting role in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4‘, Katia’s character leaves the possibility of a much larger part in the franchise’s future. With the deaths of High Table members Marquis Vincent de Gramont and Killa, she can move in for a seat at the Table. The assassination of these high-ranking members allows her to strengthen the standing of Ruska Roma’s criminal syndicate. Teaming up with The Bowery King (Lawrence Fishbourne) will be the right step toward expanding her empire.
Natalia Tena plays the leather-clad matriarch of the Ruska Roma. Having starred in ‘Game Of Thrones‘ and ‘Harry Potter,’ the London-born actress is no stranger to the audiences and franchise expectations. Despite her brief appearance in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4‘, she makes quite an impression.
There are talks of a fifth film in the franchise, not to mention the spin-off ‘Ballerina‘ and ‘The Continental’ series in the works. It’s still a long shot, but the ‘Harry Potter’ actor could become a permanent fixture in the franchise and wreak havoc on her enemies like Keanu Reeves.
