Keanu Reeves has become the star of one of the most successful franchises with ‘John Wick’. The assassin drama-thriller has style and substance, but it does not lack emotions. The noir drama’s inception with the first film in 2014 began on an emotional note. We see John Wick grieving over the untimely death of his beloved wife, Helen Wick.
The franchise is now at the fourth successful installment of the film. Despite all the deceits, drama, and action, the core and origin of ‘John Wick’ is undeterred. One of the most lethal and slickest mercenaries of The High Table goes rogue after the death of his wife. He leaves the world to start a happy life with her but resurrects his status as an assassin after two of Wick’s most prized possessions are taken away from him. There is uncertainty looming over his wife’s death. Was she killed? Or did she die?

Helen Wick Dies Of A Terminal Illness In ‘John Wick’
While the New York weather broadcast is going on in the background, we see an SUV crashing into a nearby wall at the beginning of the 2014 film. We see our protagonist John Wick, drenched in blood, going out to get his phone to watch a clip. The clip is of his wife, Helen (Bridget Moynahan), and him. Wick watches the clip multiple times throughout the franchise. It is the origin story of his retirement as an assassin and resurrection as a mercenary!
Helen Wick’s cause of death is not revealed throughout the first installment. We just know that she does have an (unnamed) illness. One can hope that there is an origin story of the romance of the brooding John Wick. Keanu Reeves’ character meets her in a restaurant, and he seems head-over-heels for her. He retires from The High Table for Helen. He wants to give up a life of violence and uncertain life at the High Table.

The Assassin Takes Up Arms After His Wife’s Demise
At the funeral, we meet the first colleague of John Wick, Marcus. The loyal friend comes to check up on his friend. After the funeral, a delivery arrives, which has a gift for him from Helen Wick.
It is a puppy named Daisy, which is the last memory of Helen for Wick along with his Mustang 429, which the wife says “does not count” in a letter. However, the car and the puppy become the reason for his descent into dystopia again.
While he is filling the tank at a gas station, he comes across an entitled brat named Iosef Tarasov. The lad is interested in his Mustang and asks him whether it is up for sale. After a verbal skirmish, the two leave the site. At night, along with his men, Iosef comes and attacks Wick and his dog. While doing so, he kills Daisy and steals his Mustang 429.
This irks John Wick, who embarks on the journey of vengeance for destroying the last memory of his beloved wife. It turns out that Iosef is the son of the member of The High Table, Viggo Tarasov, who owes a favor to John Wick for saving his life.
