‘Joker 2’ also known as ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ just like its predecessor movie ‘Joker’ gets an R rating. However, despite the two movies getting the same rating the reasoning behind these ratings is very different. Before this, fans were expecting the movie to be a ‘musical’.
This was because the movie allegedly has a lot of songs. While the first movie itself was pretty gruesome, it got the R rating for ”Rated R for strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language, and brief sexual images,” according to filmratings.com.
However, this is not the case with ‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘ starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as it earned its R rating for something other than just gruesomeness. ‘Joker 2’ was “Rated R for some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity,” according to the same source.
The rating was released after the teaser for the movie aired on 3rd April. Additionally, the trailer for the movie is set to release on April 9th with the movie itself releasing on 4th October 2024.
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Is Not A ‘Basic Musical’
Actress Zazie Beetz who portrayed Joker’s love interest Sophie Dumond in the first movie is also reprising her role in the second film. While talking to Variety, Beetz addressed how the audience would be surprised by the movie’s ‘musical elements’.
She explained that the music would be really unexpected, unlike the normal format for musicals. Beetz said, “I don’t think it’s going to be what they expect around it being musical. We all sort of express musically and dancing in our lives day-to-day. I think it’s going to work really well.”
