The ‘James Bond‘ rumors are back again, and this time they have centered on Taron Egerton. Ever since Daniel Craig stepped away from the iconic role, fans and insiders have kept a close eye on which British star might take over as 007.
Egerton’s name has often appeared in those conversations, especially after his breakout success in ‘Kingsman.’ But now, the actor has addressed the speculation himself.
Why Taron Egerton Feels He’s Not The Right Fit For James Bond

Taron Egerton has finally addressed the rumors about playing James Bond, and he made his perspective very clear. Despite being seen as a strong contender for the role, the Welsh actor said he simply does not see himself as the legendary spy. Over the years, Egerton’s performances have positioned him as one of the most exciting British actors of his generation.

Because of that rising status, many believed he could naturally take over from Daniel Craig. However, during a recent red carpet interview with Rolling Stone, Egerton firmly shut down the rumors: “I don’t think I’m right for James Bond.” He added, “I’ve never felt that that was me.” However, Egerton didn’t dismiss the franchise.
In fact, he acknowledged that there are “great candidates” for the role and described Bond as “a huge cinematic institution.” Still, he explained that his own career path feels “less… kind of grand and idealised.” So, while he respects the legacy, he does not see himself as that polished, larger-than-life spy.
Egerton’s Plans Regarding His Career

This is not a sudden decision. Egerton previously dismissed Bond speculation and questioned whether he would suit Amazon’s take on the franchise. Casting conversations have certainly intensified and his name has popped up in fan debates and media reports. Still, Egerton never encouraged the buzz.

In fact, when you look at his career choices, his response makes sense. Egerton often selects roles that feel bold, emotional, and slightly unconventional. In ‘Rocketman‘, he fully embraced Elton John’s vulnerability and complexity. Rather than chasing a flawless action-hero image, he consistently chooses characters with emotional depth.
Meanwhile, Egerton continues building his own path in the industry. Most recently, he starred in the action film ‘She Rides Shotgun‘, which was released in August 2025. Shortly before that, he appeared in the Apple TV+ crime series ‘Smoke‘, released in June 2025. Earlier, he led the Netflix thriller ‘Carry-On‘, which debuted in December 2024 and further strengthened his reputation as a versatile lead actor. So, while the Bond rumors continue to circulate, Taron Egerton is only focusing on making his position consistent.
