Andy Serkis recently shared some exciting news for The Lord of the Rings’ fans. The actor, best known for his groundbreaking performance as Gollum in the epic film series, revealed that the upcoming film ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum‘ could potentially kick off a brand-new trilogy set in J.R.R. This time, Serkis is not only reprising his role but is also reportedly set to take the helm of the highly anticipated project as its director. Currently, ‘The Hunt for Gollum‘ is positioned as a potential launching pad for fresh adventures in Tolkien’s universe.

Set for a December 2027 release by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film explores an untold chapter focusing on the quest to track down the tormented creature Gollum before the events of ‘The Fellowship of the Ring.’

Serkies suggested that the film could lead to a three-part movie series that explores Middle-earth’s lore and connects gaps in the timeline.

I think so. I think it would be the first one,” the 61-year-old said, per Superhero Hype. The upcoming chapters may also delve deeper into the characters’ backstories or unexplored conflicts.

Elijah Wood, who portrayed the earnest hobbit Frodo Baggins, has also strongly hinted at his involvement, though an official confirmation is still pending.

I’m really excited about the film. I think it really is a creative ‘getting the band back together,” he told Variety earlier this year. “It’s very much that core original group getting back together to tell this story that will feel like a really fun exploration of this character that we all love so much. And I’m just really excited.

Now, as more details emerge, one thing is clear – the One Ring’s shadow looms larger than ever.
