Macaulay Culkin recently spoke about Kevin McCallister during his live tour, “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin.” He looked back at the ‘Home Alone’ story in a way nobody did.
Next, he hinted that he has been thinking about where Kevin would be today, and the direction he described is nothing like the one we were counting on.
Macaulay Culkin Teases Kevin’s Future In ‘Home Alone’ Franchise

First, the original Home Alone movie made Culkin one of the most famous child actors of the 1990s. The film earned $476 million worldwide and became the second-highest-grossing movie of 1990. Two years later, he returned for Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and Kevin stayed a fan favorite.

After that, the movies continued without Culkin or director Chris Columbus. Home Alone 3 arrived in 1997 with a new cast and made little of an impact. Later, a fourth movie was released on television in 2002. Years after that, Disney tried again in 2021 with the Disney+ film Home Sweet Home Alone, starring Archie Yates from Jojo Rabbit. However, reviews were mostly negative, and many viewers felt the remake did not match the earlier films.
In August, Columbus told Entertainment Tonight that he did not think another Home Alone movie should be made. He said the original films were a special moment in time and felt that trying to bring them back after 35 years would be a mistake. As a result, he believed the series should be left as it is.
Why Kevin McCallister And His Son’s Locked Room Adventure Is The Perfect Pitch

Even with that opinion, Culkin told the audience on his tour that he would not be “completely allergic” to returning as Kevin. Still, he explained that he would only think about it if the idea felt right and not rushed.
Then, Culkin shared the idea he has in mind. In his version, Kevin is either divorced or a widower and raising his child alone. He said Kevin would be working very hard and not paying enough attention at home, which would leave his son upset. At one point, Kevin gets locked out of the house, and his son refuses to let him back in.

After explaining the setup, Culkin revealed the twist. This time, the child would be the one setting traps. He said the idea replaces the burglars with Kevin himself. He also shared that the house would symbolize their relationship. Also, Kevin would need to find his way back into his son’s heart. Finally, he described this as the closest elevator pitch he has and said he is not fully against returning if everything feels right.
Right now, there is no new Home Alone project in the works. Still, Culkin’s idea has given fans a different way to think about Kevin as an adult. For now, nothing is confirmed, and everything remains uncertain. But Culkin’s comments suggest that Kevin McCallister’s story may not be completely over.
