Why Jodi Picoult Hates ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ Movie
Jodi Picoult has been one of the industry’s biggest and most influential authors for the longest time. The author of ‘My Sister’s Keeper‘, is all set to release her upcoming book ‘By Any Other Name‘, which will hit stores on August 20. The book narrates the story of Emilia Bassano, a real-life woman who some historians speculate may have been the inspiration behind Shakespeare’s plays, and Melina Green, a contemporary playwright who is a fictional character who comes to light when her play is entered into a festival under the name of her Black male roommate.
The author talked about how she drew inspiration for Melina’s contemporary plot from her own experiences of adapting her books into films. She also mentioned how she relates to the kind of criticism her character Melina gets in the film and how she has also received that straight to her face. Picoult vehemently opposed the ending change in the movie, but the makers were adamant and didn’t pay her any heed.
“It kind of goes back to when I had a really terrible experience turning My Sister’s Keeper into a film,” she told People. “It took me a long time to kind of wrap my head around the fact that they didn’t ruin my book. My book is still there. And anyone who reads my book is still getting the story that I intended.”
