Nearly three decades after ‘Practical Magic‘ first enchanted audiences, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are reuniting for the long-awaited sequel. The upcoming film will bring the beloved witches back to the theaters on September 11, 2026, and fans are already eager to see the iconic duo share the screen again.
However, ‘Practical Magic 2‘ did not happen simply because the original film became a cult favorite over the years. Kidman recently opened up about what truly convinced her to return to the magical world alongside Bullock, and the reason behind it says a lot about their real-life relationship.
Nicole Kidman Gets Candid About Her Unique Bond With Sandra Bullock

During a recent interview with Variety, Nicole Kidman opened up about her relationship with Sandra Bullock while discussing their return for ‘Practical Magic 2.’ The actress made it clear that their connection has remained strong even after all these years.
“I love Sandy. I love her. And we’re so different. I’m like [makes a wild noise with her mouth], and she’s so measured and together,” Kidman said while describing their contrasting personalities.

Despite those differences, Kidman described their relationship as sister-like and admitted she has long felt protective and affectionate toward Bullock.
Kidman also stressed that her connection with Bullock is not only personal. It carries over directly into the way they work. “We also have incredible chemistry,” she said, before explaining that the two women still approach producing from very different angles.
According to Kidman, Bullock is “incredibly hands-on,” while she herself loves delegating. Rather than clash, those opposite working styles balance each other out. As Kidman put it, “We have different skill sets that become complementary.” She also sounded genuinely amazed that their bond has lasted so naturally over time, adding, “It’s amazing that we still know each other.”
Kidman Pushed For “A Female-Led Vision” For ‘Practical Magic 2’

Kidman also revealed that as a producer, she wanted ‘Practical Magic 2‘ to be female-centric. She ensured that a woman director would helm the project, and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Susanne Bier was welcomed on board.

“It’s so good to have found a purpose in terms of that work, being able to shift something culturally at a time where you just go, ‘Well, yeah, I work a lot, and I’m hoping to be able to give female directors and writers far more of a chance through my own showing up and being in the thing,’” Kidman said.
But Kidman did not turn that mission into a rejection of male filmmakers. She said she still loves working with men too, specifically naming David Gordon Green on ‘Scarpetta,’ Osgood Perkins, and Baz Luhrmann. In her view, “Men’s voices are very distinct. They’re able to edit. They’re able to operate a camera. They love shots. They’re cinephiles, and they’re fantastic to work with because we have the same language.”
However, the heart of ‘Practical Magic 2‘ clearly comes back to one thing: Kidman’s enduring partnership with Bullock, and the wonders they create together on screen.
