Disney is going to bring back some memories as it has decided to remake all the beloved animations into live-action movies. The OG animated cartoons of Disney reigned from the mid-90s till the early 2000s. The period of ‘Snow White‘, ‘Cinderella‘, ‘Peter Pan‘, ‘Sleeping Beauty‘, ‘The Little Mermaid,’ etc., were watched and loved globally.
Even after its classic era, Disney delivered some other exceptional movies as well. ‘The Princess Diaries,’ and ‘High School: Musical‘ are some of them. The movie remakes have been profitable for them, and this gives Disney more impetus to keep on working on new remakes. Below is the list of all the classic movies coming to the big screens and for streaming soon in a live-action format.

Pinocchio
Pinocchio, the ill-fated wooden puppet, is all set to make its first live-action appearance on Disney+ Day on September 8, 2022. Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be the voice of Jiminy Cricket, Cynthia Erivo will voice the Blue Fairy, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will voice the main character, Pinocchio. The movie will bring many animated visuals to a live-action appearance, especially, the wooden puppet, Pinocchio himself.
The Little Mermaid
The current release date for the live-action remake of this fairytale narration has been announced to be May 26, 2023. Director Rob Marshall will be heading the movie. Fans are eyeing ‘The Little Mermaid‘ with anticipation since Marshall’s version of ‘Mary Poppins Returns‘ was a fresh and much-loved take. The story will follow the life of the mermaid Ariel, who wants to walk the dry earth with Prince Eric. A new plot and elements juxtaposed with the original narration are something worth looking forward to!
Peter Pan & Wendy
‘Peter Pan‘ has had its share of remakes, and yet, here comes another one. The upcoming ‘Peter Pan & Wendy,’ will take the fans back to the magical land of Neverland. Actors Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson are helming Peter Pan and Wendy, respectively. No release date has been announced yet, except that it will hit Disney+ in 2022 only.
Tinker Bell
Tinker Bell has always been seen as Peter Pan’s friend and a character in his movies. However, she has recently got her own spin-off sequels and movies. The date or cast of the live-action film has not been revealed by Disney. Although, one colossal piece of information was reported: Reese Witherspoon will most probably be the producer of this movie. The tiny pixie fairy has a lot of popularity and it is assumed that the remake can attract more big names to it soon.
Disney Is Rebooting Hercules With The Russo Brothers
Guy Ritchie’s live-action remake of Aladdin grossed $1 billion at the box office, and it seems the director doesn’t want to stop at that. The Hercules live-action remake was announced in 2020. Although the cast still hasn’t been revealed, it is confirmed that Guy Ritchie will direct the movie and the Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, will serve as producers.
The Classic Disney Animation Film: Snow White
‘Snow White,’ the classic fairy tale love story, filled with dark magic, too is getting a live-action remake. The movie will retell the tale of Snow White, which will be played by Rachel Zelger, befriending a band of dwarves. The Evil Queen, played by Gal Gadot, will also be present to trouble the protagonist. Marc Webb, the director of the ‘Amazing Spiderman‘ series, is overseeing this remake. There’ll be certain changes and modifications to the plot to correct the controversies attached to the tale.
Cruella Sequel
‘Cruella‘ was released last year, 2021, and garnered good box office results. The story revolved around the iconic villain Cruella de Vil from ‘101 Dalmatians.’ Director Craig Gillespie will return with the sequel and fans are elated to know that Emma Stone as Cruella would return too.
The Lion King Sequel
In 2019, ‘The Lion King’ was the highest-grossing film of the year. Since then, a sequel has been in work. However, the upcoming movie can also be called a prequel than a sequel, since the plot will cover the origins of Mufasa. The film was officially announced by Deadline on September 29, 2020. Barry Jenkins will be directing the movie.
The Jungle Book Sequel
After the 2016 adaptation and live-action remake of ‘The Jungle Book‘ received a successful response, a sequel has been expected. Neither the plot nor the cast has been revealed yet. There is no confirmation if the original cast would return or if there will be some modifications. Nevertheless, if the sequel delivers the same visual elements, it’ll certainly be worth watching!
The Biggest Franchise of Disney: Lilo & Stitch
Disney is working to bring one of its biggest franchises into a live-action remake. Director Dean Fleischer-Camp, who worked on the amazing ‘Marcel The Shell With Shoes On‘ and brought significant elements into the movie, will be overseeing the direction of ‘Lilo & Stitch‘ too.
