‘Shaun of the Dead‘ is a beloved romantic zombie comedy film directed by Edgar Wright, released two decades ago, in 2004. Simon Pegg, who takes the lead role of a downtrodden London salesman caught alongside his loved ones in a zombie apocalypse, is also the writer of the film.
Being an incredibly hilarious watch for many, fans have had hopes of either a sequel or a reboot since it first released and garnered heavy acclaim. However, writer and actor Simon Peggs doesn’t quite seem on board with the idea. Here’s what he said.
What Did Simon Pegg Say About a ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ Reboot?
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Pegg revealed how he would not be pleased with a reboot of ‘Shaun of the dead‘ because the film is “incredibly personal” to him.
“I mean, Universal owns it. If they choose to reboot it, then they can if they want I guess. Although Edgar and I would be incensed,” Pegg said during the interview. “Shaun of the Dead is incredibly personal. There’s so much of us in that film,” he added.

He further explained how the intricacies of the film reveal where its story was inspired from. “The whole joke of Ed and Shaun not being able to ever come out of The Winchester was real. That was about Nick and I, that was about our decision to just stay in a North London pub. Edgar was always in town,” he said.
“We always wanted to be in The Shepherds [pub]. My girlfriend, now my wife, was the same. She was like, ‘Are we going to The Shepherds again?’ That inspired that whole storyline,” he added.
“There’s so much of our own heart and soul in that film. If someone was to reboot it, it would be a cynical and exploitative exercise. I would hope that people are in love with our Shaun enough to resist a reboot,” the writer said, explaining why a reboot would take away the personal touch from the film.
