Stephen King Calls Donald Trump “Waffling Nitwit” While Praising New Netflix Thriller

Kathryn Bigelow’s new Netflix thriller ‘A House of Dynamite‘ has been making headlines for its tense, realistic take on political chaos. The film follows the U.S. government’s response after a nuclear missile is launched toward Chicago, throwing the White House into panic.

With critics calling it one of Bigelow’s most gripping works, the film has already sparked strong reactions, including one from Stephen King, whose mix of praise and political jab has everyone talking.

Directed by Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow, ‘A House of Dynamite‘ stars Idris Elba as the President of the United States and Rebecca Ferguson as a senior officer in the White House Situation Room. The movie opens with a chilling scenario, a nuclear missile aimed at Chicago by an unknown enemy. It perfectly captures the government’s desperate attempt to prevent catastrophe. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, where it immediately earned glowing reviews and a Golden Lion nomination.

Currently, ‘A House of Dynamite‘ holds a score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from more than 180 critics’ reviews. However, the audience has rated it 76% on the Popcornmeter. Viewers have especially praised the chemistry between Elba and Ferguson, along with the film’s tense pacing and grounded approach. However, critics have described it as “nerve-wrackingly plausible,” praising Bigelow’s direction and her ability to balance political realism with edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Even nuclear experts have weighed in. Jennifer Knox from the Union of Concerned Scientists called the movie “required viewing,” saying it reveals how fragile the world’s security truly is. She noted that no matter how much preparation or funding goes into national defense, “we will always be vulnerable as long as we rely on a system that threatens catastrophic destruction for our security.

After the film’s release, Stephen King shared his reaction on X, calling it “terrifying.” But in true Stephen King fashion, he added a punch that instantly set social media on fire. King said the movie was “terrifying, especially given the unprincipled, waffling nitwit now occupying the White House… or what remains of it“. Though he didn’t name anyone directly, it was clear his words were aimed at Donald Trump. This is especially relevant after the demolition work at the East Wing to make way for a ballroom.

King’s post quickly went viral and brought in backlash from the audience. Fans praised King for speaking his mind, while others accused him of turning a film review into a political statement. Regardless, his comment only amplified interest in the film and proved once again that when Stephen King talks, people listen.

While King’s words grabbed headlines, Idris Elba’s performance is what keeps audiences glued to the screen. As the President is caught in a national nightmare, Elba delivers one of his most emotional performances to date. He later admitted that watching the finished film left him speechless for several minutes.

If you’re ready for a film that will leave you uneasy, ‘A House of Dynamite‘ is now streaming on Netflix. Go ahead and watch it now!
