In a major, tantalizing tease for fans of Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2025 dark political satire ‘One Battle After Another,’ breakout star Teyana Taylor has revealed that she has been in touch with the director about a potential sequel. And, it could be centered on her unforgettable character, Perfidia Beverly Hills.
The character stands as one of the most compelling and diverse female figures in recent cinema. As the leader of the radical French 75 group in 1950s Los Angeles, Teyana plays a fierce revolutionary navigating betrayal and raw power struggles.
Will There Be ‘One Battle After Another’ Sequel?

In an interview with IndieWire, Taylor confessed, “The conversations are very, very real.” She added, “I want to give everybody confirmation that I am currently begging PTA to give us that. I’m begging him to give us that.”

Even though audiences debated Perfidia’s complex choices, critics hailed her performance, calling it “burning a hole through the screen.” Taylor has also defended her role, saying that the character reflects the real-world complexities faced by Black women.
Her sheer on-screen chemistry with Leonardo DiCaprio and Chase Infiniti adds further layers to the film’s emotional core.
The Vision Behind A Perfidia-Centered Movie

Taylor is not content with leaving Perfidia’s story unresolved, and there is a solid reason behind it. According to her, the film’s open ending and the 16-year time jump give a valid ground for more exploration.
“We need to see what Perfidia did in those 16 years,” she added. “Perfidia and Willa need some scenes together. When Willa walked out the door in that last scene, I said, ‘Where’s she really going? Is she going to free Deandra? Is she going to find her mommy?’ I love that it’s still hopeful, and it’s room for a little part two in there somewhere.”

Now, while ‘One Battle After Another‘ continues its strong award run, Taylor’s recent revelation has ignited excitement among fans and cinephiles. The 35-year-old has already won the Golden Globe Award this year for Best Supporting Actress and is also nominated for an Oscar in the same category.
As the Academy Awards approach on March 15, 2026, all eyes are on whether Anderson will bend his vision for Taylor’s passion.
‘One Battle After Another‘ is now streaming on HBO Max.
