Timothée Chalamet has revealed that a background actor threatened him during filming on ‘Marty Supreme‘. The incident happened during a motel scene and immediately crossed the line from acting into real life.
He shared the experience during a public appearance, explaining that the warning came directly from a background performer during a take, and it left him absolutely stunned.

The revelation came during a Q&A at New York’s DGA Theater, where Timothée Chalamet appeared on stage alongside Robert Downey Jr. While discussing the film, Chalamet spoke directly about the motel sequence, which included several background performers who were not trained actors.

Chalamet isn’t a newbie to such scenes, and he often pushes more to get stronger reactions, especially when working with non-actors. During this particular shoot, he kept trying to provoke a more intense response from the person opposite him, believing it would help the scene feel more convincing. And that’s when everything started to go wrong.
Chalamet recalled telling director Josh Safdie that the reaction still wasn’t coming through. At that stage, he believed everything remained part of the performance and continued during another take. After that take ended, the background actor stopped and spoke directly to Chalamet, telling him he had just spent 30 years in jail.
Chalamet’s Reaction to the On-Set Threat

The comment caught Chalamet completely off guard, and it no longer felt like a part of the script. He later said that he immediately turned to Safdie and reacted, “Who do you have me opposite, man?” The interaction ended right there. Chalamet backed off, and the scene moved forward without any further confrontation.
