1. Leave No Trace
Directed by Debra Granik, this 2018 film has a very unique storyline. The film is based on Peter Rock’s novel ‘My Abandonment’. Interestingly, the story is based on a true story. Starring Ben Foster and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie, the story follows Will, a veteran with PTSD. He and his teenage daughter, Tom live in the old growth Forest Park in Portland, Oregon away from human contact. However, when Tom gets spotted they are on a run from the authorities.

2. Toy Story 2
This animated movie from Pixar has been in our hearts from our childhood. ‘Toy Story 2’ has also won over the tomatometer of Rotten Tomatoes. Woody and Buzz Lightyear return as the adventurous toys in the sequel. Buzz and the others try to rescue Woody from a toy collector who stole him. The ‘Toy Story’ franchise is frequently featured on lists of the greatest animated films. With a stellar cast and incredible animation, this franchise is one of Disney’s most successful ones.

The film secured a 100% rating on the tomatometer and two nominations at the Oscars.
5. Minding The Gap
Directed by Bing Liu, ‘Minding the Gap’ is a 2018 documentary film. Not only a 100% on the tomatometer the film also won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival. This is an unusual story about three friends and their love for skateboarding. The movie talks about friendship, adulthood, race discrimination and systemic abuse in a manner that is relatable yet real.
6. His House
A horror movie with a 100% tomatometer is difficult to find. But Remi Weekes’ ‘His House’ is an exceptionally good one. Full of jump scares, it stars Wunmi Mosaku, Sope Dirisu and Matt Smith. ‘His House’ is not only a horror movie but it also gives an inside view on the troubles of refugees. The film is available on Netflix and is a tale of human survival and perseverance.
7. The Philadelphia Story
For the next one, we take a stroll back in time. This 1940s romantic comedy stars Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart and Ruth Hussey. The story is based on a Philadelphia socialite inspired Helen Hope Montgomery Scott. She gets stuck in a love triangle between her ex-husband and a tabloid magazine journalist. Rotten Tomato has also named this movie as the best romantic comedy of all time.

8. 76 Days
The Covid-19 pandemic is still fresh in our minds and ‘76 Days’ captures the human resilience against the spread of the disease in Wuhan, China. The movie captures the initial days when the pandemic just started. This documentary film captures humanity at its peak. The struggle for survival and the dread of the pandemic are captured as beautifully as possible in this documentary.
9. Crip Camp
Another documentary film, this one was produced by former US President Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama. A 100% on the tomatometer, ‘Crip Camp’ also won the Audience Award at the Sundance film festival. The movie is based on Camp Jened, a summer camp for teens with disabilities. The movie depicts the powers of a community and how unity can truly be strength.
10. Summer 1993
Last but not the least, ‘Summer 1993’ is a Spanish movie directed and written by Carla Simón. Interestingly, the movie has been inspired from the director’s own childhood. ‘Summer 1993’ is based on six year old Frida who has to move to the countryside with her aunt, uncle and cousin following her mother’s death. A fun and heartwarming film, the story follows Frida as she adjusts to her new life and finds a loving family.
