Why Harry Potter Never Tried A Career In Professional Quidditch

Harry Potter was a born Quidditch star, playing as Gryffindor’s Seeker since his first year at Hogwarts. With his talent, it is surprising that he never became a professional Quidditch player after the Second Wizarding War.

Although he possessed the talent and love for the game, there are some major reasons why he did not pursue a career in Quidditch.

Harry Potter’s True Calling Was Fighting for Justice

Harry was never merely a Quidditch player throughout his life; he was a warrior for justice. Even when he was still a student, his true battles were against Voldemort and the darkness, not merely the opposing teams in Quidditch. His priorities were defined by the war against Voldemort, and by the time it was over, his priorities had moved towards securing a safer world for generations to come.

Harry had always looked up to Aurors, especially Mad-Eye Moody and Kingsley Shacklebolt, who worked hard to combat dark wizards. Given all that he had been through, joining the Auror Department made perfect sense so that he could contribute to rebuilding the wizarding world instead of pursuing a sports career. Unlike Quidditch, being an Auror provided him with a sense of purpose beyond personal achievement.

Quidditch Was A Passion, Not A Career Goal

Although Harry enjoyed playing Quidditch, it was never something he considered a lifelong career. He enjoyed the excitement of the game, but it was always more of a pastime than a career goal. Even at Hogwarts, he played for fun and house pride, not with professional goals in mind.

Also, the activities of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows kept him from Quidditch for a considerable amount of time. By the time the war was over, he had outgrown his schoolboy fantasies. Instead of pursuing glory as a Quidditch hero, he wanted a more subdued existence with Ginny, who did end up playing professionally before becoming a journalist.

Eventually, Harry’s choosing not to turn pro Quidditch wasn’t because he couldn’t do it—it was merely because he had greater responsibilities and other goals which were more important to him.
