Henry Cavill is hyping up the upcoming reboot of ‘Highlander‘, as he revealed how he had to elevate his swordsmanship to new levels of expertise for his role in it. Renowned for his monster-slaying expertise in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’, Cavill is not new to swordsmanship skills. However, the actor admitted the need to hone his existing skills for his upcoming role.
Speaking at Lionsgate’s CinemaCon 2024 presentation, Cavill assured fans that they’re in for a treat when ‘Highlander’ hits theaters in 2026. “If you thought you’d seen me do swordwork before, you haven’t seen anything yet,” Cavill boasted, hinting at the sword-fighting scenes in the film.
Cavill is a known superhero figure for his multiple roles in the genre. His exploits in ‘Man of Steel’ or ‘Superman‘ may not have involved any sword action, but it was undoubtedly a field of expertise for him in ‘The Witcher’. While those moves have impressed many of his fans already, he has set the anticipation for even better sword moves in the upcoming film.
Henry Cavill Will Go Through “A Very Long Training Process” For His Role In ‘Highlander’ Reboot
Henry Cavill also opened up about his admiration for the original ‘Highlander’ films “for better or for worse“. He said the whole production team aims to delve deeper into the franchise’s rich lore in the upcoming film directed by Chad Stahelski of ‘John Wick’ fame.
“They just touched on the lore in the first few movies. We’re going deeper with the lore and characters,” Cavill said, adding that the upcoming iteration of ‘Highlander’ aims to expand further into the universe set up by its predecessors.
Cavill also spoke about how the preparation for the film involves an extensive training regimen. Noting that the movie would need him to go through “a very long training process“, Cavill said his demanding role of Scottish warrior Connor MacLeod would need him to stay committed to his training.
The story of the film will follow MacLeod’s discovery of his immortality after surviving a seemingly fatal incident on the battlefield. Lionsgate aims to revitalize ‘Highlander’ as a new franchise, with Stahelski overseeing creative direction. The release date for the film is not yet known, though it is expected to get a release date sometime in 2026.
