Johnny Depp’s much-hyped return to the screen after years in the tabloid wilderness (thanks to the Amber Heard defamation trial) is more of a whisper than a triumph. While playing King Louis XV, Depp looks the part but his acting prowess somewhere fades behind the powdered wigs and melodrama. The film got a standing ovation at Cannes, but failed to impress the global audience.

This was Depp’s attempt at playing the Big Bad Wolf. Thankfully, it was just a cameo that turned out to be all bark and little bite.
