“Did She Really Play That?”: Taylor Swift Fans Share That They Do Not Remember Anything From The ‘Eras Tour’ Concert
It is a blank space in Swifties’ brains as they complain of not remembering anything from the ‘Eras Tour’ concerts. The Times has reported this phenomenon by interviewing many Swifties who experienced something called ‘post-concert amnesia.’ Jenna Tocatlian attended the concert at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts. Jenna said during the interview, “Post-concert amnesia is real.”
During the concert, Taylor Swift continued the ritual of playing “surprise songs.’ But Jenna does not have a memory of Taylor playing ‘Better Man.’ She said, “If I didn’t have the 5-minute video that my friend kindly took of me jamming to it, I probably would have told everyone that it didn’t happen.”
The New York resident even replayed the whole list, and she asked her friends, “Did she really play that? How much of it did she play?”
Many fans took to Reddit to share similar experiences to Jenna Tocatlian’s. A Swiftie wrote that despite waiting for months to attend the concert, they believed that they hadn’t been there. Another fan wrote that they feel guilty about not leaving the concert with “vivid memories.”

According To Ewan McNay, The Experience Is Due To A Highly Induced Emotional State
The Times interviewed Ewan McNay, an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the State University of New York at Albany. He said, “This is not a concert-specific phenomenon–it can happen anytime you’re in a highly emotional state.”
He continues, “If you’re slightly on edge, with a little bit of excitement, you’ll actually remember better. But too much excitement pushes you over the edge in terms of memory formation, and you’re unable to make memories.”
There is scientific reasoning for the euphoric disremembrance. When you get excited, the body perceives it to be a stressful situation. So, it releases glucose, which helps the body to generate memories, think, and learn. The body goes into a fight and flight mode.
McNay said, “You want that fuel for your muscles to go and fight the bear or run away from the bear.” He says that the body does not generate glucose to form memories. He explains that it triggers vagal nerves and says, “You’re saying, ‘Hey, we’re really stressed out: we’re running away from the bear, or we’re watching Taylor Swift.'”
