“I Wanted To Give Up, But…”: Kid Cudi Says He Forgives Kanye West Over Ugly Fallout

Kanye West reached the depths of the abyss of hate due to his erratic behavior in 2022. The rapper hurt his credibility in the industry after making controversial fashion statements and spewing hate against Jews in his anti-Semitic rants. During his professional downfall, Ye severed many personal relationships, including those with collaborator Kid Cudi.

Kanye West and Kid Cudi’s friendship goes back to the early days of G.O.O.D. Music. The rapper has frequently collaborated with him, resulting in bangers like ‘G.O.O.D. Friday’, ‘Erase Me’, and others. However, in 2022, the relationship between the two was affected after Ye went on a spree of hateful behavior, taking shots at the rapper. However, after a year, the two have reconciled, and Cudi has cited the reason to mend his relationship with the ‘Donda’ rapper.

Kanye West hurt not only the racial and religious sentiments of people; he also dented his relationships in the industry with people who have been there for him since day one. One of them was Kid Cudi, who was one of the people on the roster of the 2008 signings to the G.O.O.D. Music.

However, in 2022, Kanye West, in one of his rants, said that he would be dropping all his friends from ‘Donda 2’. The reason was that the rapper was friends with Kim Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend, Pete Davidson. Cudi, in response, called Ye a dinosaur, which was the inception of a long back-and-forth between the two.

In December 2023, after Kid Cudi said that it would take a miracle for him to be on good terms with Kanye West again, he reconciled with the ‘College Dropout’ rapper in Las Vegas. Recently, he appeared on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music podcast, where he revealed that he has forgiven West.

During the podcast, Kid Cudi said, “Siblings hurt you the most. So you go through things, but family is always there. You don’t give up on family. And I think in the thick of it, when it was going down, I wanted to walk away.”

The producer added, “I wanted to give up, but in thinking about it the past couple years, it’s like this is someone who is my brother ultimately who came into my life and championed me and did things for me that nobody else did for me early on in my career.”

During an interview with Esquire, Kid Cudi talked about whether he would ever reconcile with the rapper.

To this, he took a dig at Drake and said, “With all due respect, I’m not Drake, who’s about to take a picture with him next week and be friends again, and their beef is squashed. That’s not me. What I say, I mean. I will be done with you.”

He added, “It’s gonna take a motherf***ing miracle for me and that man to be friends again. I don’t see it happening. He gon’ have to become a monk.”

However, almost two years later, Kid Cudi has left the beef in the past, and during the Apple podcast, he called Kanye West a good man with a soul. Cudi added, “He’s learning and he’s growing. He knows he made some mistakes and I think that that’s the beauty of it, is this is a beautiful thing.”

The ‘Insano’ rapper said, “It’s like he knows he’s been on one hell of a ride and he knows he’s said some things that he might not be able to come back from in a lot of realms, in a lot of spaces from certain people. But we grow and I think I pray for him, and that’s my brother.”
