Ariana Grande has been a reigning pop princess in the last decade in Hollywood. Performing chart topping hits after hits, the ‘pov‘ singer has been a household name. Though she has had an elaborate musical career, the pop star is now thinking of slowing it down and focusing on musicals.
Grande, who will be appearing in ‘Wicked‘ as Glinda — a casting choice that came with a lot of criticism — seems to have lifted her spirits for a career in musicals. Here’s what she said.
Ariana Grande Is Looking Forward To A Career In Musicals
Ariana Grande is thinking of taking a step back from her musical career as she embarks on her first ever musical project. During her recent appearance at the Las Culturistas podcast, the Disney alum talked about wanting to return to Broadway.
“I’m gonna say something so scary — it’s gonna scare the absolute s–t out of my fans and everyone, but I love them, and they’ll deal, and we’ll be here forever,” she said.
“I’m always going to make music, I’m always going to go on stage, I’m always going to do pop stuff, I pinky promise. But I don’t think doing it at the rate I’ve been doing it for the past 10 years is where I see the next 10 years.”
She added, “Reconnecting with this part of myself who started in musical theater, and who loves comedy, and it heals me to do that — finding roles to use these parts of myself and put them in little homes and characters and bits and voices and songs.”
“Whatever makes sense, or whatever roles we see fit, or where I could really do a good job or honor the material, I would really love to. I think it’s a lot better for me. I’m getting emotional,” she added.
Ariana Grande Is Set To Return To Screens For ‘Wicked’
Ariana Grande is in Sydney, Australia as she begins the world premiere of ‘Wicked‘ and is as excited as ever. She plays the role of Glinda, opposite Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba. Talking about how she feels to return to her acting roots after so long, she said, “I felt a little bit of the initial nervousness. about what I might be able to deliver or not deliver.”
She also talked about the criticism she received over her casting and said, “Going off of ‘Side to Side,’ I probably would’ve said the same thing. I probably would’ve said, ‘Why the f–k? Kill me. I’ve waited 20 years for this. Kill me.’ I would’ve said that as a fan from the outside, knowing of only ‘7 Rings.’ I’d say, ‘Well, that’s bulls–t.’ So, you know, I get it.”
