Jack Antonoff has contributed to the music industry, songwriting, and production in many ways. He is a prominent figure in the modern music landscape and has done impactful collaborations with artists like Taylor Swift, Lana del Ray, Lorde, and more.
He became a reliable source in the industry for music, with the pop sensation Taylor Swift herself helping him in kickstarting his music career. The singer and writer recently talked about the randomness of creativity and also shared about his life and music-making.
Jack Antonoff Is Grateful To Taylor Swift For Helping Kickstart His Career
During a recent interview with CBS News, Jack Antonoff revealed that he often works randomly or “just plays around” with music making. He also revealed that during one such random music-making session, he found the signature sound — a riff that became ‘Rollercoaster’, one of the popular songs of his band Bleachers.
He’s random yet creative with his music. According to him, the creativeness hits in its own time. He said, “You look at the story of any album, any song. No one’s ever like, ‘We planned that day to write the best song we’ve ever written. We got coffee when we went in. And we did it. And that’s how that happened.’ The story is always like, ‘So-and-so’s plane was delayed“.
Antonoff continued, “And I got kicked out of my hotel in Reno ’cause of some s**t that this person did. Blah, blah, blah. So I’m walking down the street and I hear this … ‘ You know, like, it’s always this randomness. That buzz is where it all comes from. I just don’t wanna ever lose that. You never put yourself in a position as an artist where any of this feels normal.”
In his last Grammy speech, Jack Antonoff gave credit to Taylor Swift for “kicking that f***g door open” for him. “Literally!” he said. Apart from working with singers, Antonoff is the lead singer to his band Bleachers and owns 11 Grammys.
Jack Antonoff Is Still In Disbelief Of His Success
Jack Antonoff has also achieved various things in his musical career. His first Broadway show just opened, and he has also done the music for the play ‘Romeo + Juliet’. “When I think ‘Romeo + Juliet,’ and I was doing this in music, I think about hope and love and finding something and running with it against all odds,” he said.
Antonoff continued, “I always forget about all the death. And so, I started going back and sewing that into the score slightly, a slight, not knowing this, but hint that it’s gonna be horrible. ‘Cuz I forget!”

He came to success slow and steady in 2017 with his song ‘Sunday Morning‘ and put his first band together in high school. When his band played at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the first time, his joy knew no bounds. “Most of the time I actually – even if a show is sold out – I have such a level of surprise. That doesn’t get old“, he said.
Music has always been surreal for him and he enjoys it the most. “And it continues to be surreal because one of the only promises of the work I do is how fleeting – not the performance, not the audience, but that kind of success is. So, there’s never a moment when I’m not, like, amazed by it all,” Antonoff added.
