Shawn Mendes has finally put out new music– much to fans delight- after a break that lasted more than a year. As the pop sensation released his two new tracks, fans couldn’t help but point out an important revelation he seems to have made in one of the songs.
Mendes, who has had a long on and off relationship with Camilla Cabello, seems to have referenced her in one of the songs, along with a shocking revelation about his personal life. Here’s everything you need to know.
Shawn Mendes Opens Up On Almost Being A Father In New Song
In a new song, Shawn Mendes has revealed that he almost became a father!
The 26-year-old singer-songwriter shared his brand-new song ‘Why Why Why’ on Friday, in anticipation of the release of his upcoming fifth album ‘Shawn‘. In the song’s bridge he sings, “I thought I was about to be a father/ Shook me to the core / I’m still a kid.”
Though he doesn’t say who the relationship is with, Mendes speaks about a long-lost love throughout the song, one he thought to build a future with until it ended.
He might also have sneaked in a reference for Camilla as he sings, “Sweating through the sheets, shakin’ in bed / Visions of her naked in my head / But I went off and chose myself instead / Why, why, why? Ease my mind.”

For many fans, Shawn Mendes’s honesty has come across as a shock as the singer has usually shied away from discussing his personal life. However, in a recent interview with Zane Lowe he said, “I realised there was two options for me. It was literally like, ‘I’m going to go down this path of speaking my exact truth or I’m going to dance around it.’ It felt pointless to dance around it, even if the song was never to see the light of day.”
“I was like, ‘Why are we here dancing around it?’ So yeah, it felt like I crossed a big threshold. I think it feels just really liberating, even just to be in a space where I’ve done that as a writer. Now I feel more free to do that as a human,” he said.
Mendes also admitted that the process, however, wasn’t at all easy. “It was just one of those experiences where there became this joke while we were making the album that was, like, if I started to experience some pretty heavy anxiety in the studio everyone was sure that a great song was going to be coming after it because there was some sort of healing crisis, some sort of breakthrough that was supposed to happen,” he said.
