Taylor Swift has gained humongous credibility with her recent ‘Eras Tour,’ becoming a globe-dominating artist. She started the tour in March, and it is about to create history by becoming the highest-grossing tour in music’s history. The songstress is currently on the last leg of her North American tour, and her last stop will be at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Currently, hospitality industry workers are on strike in the state of Los Angeles, demanding a rise in wages. So, Unite Here Local 11, a labor union organization, is urging Swift to postpone the concert to show solidarity.
The Union Organization Is Asking Taylor Swift To ‘Speak Now’ For The Hotel Workers
Starting August 3, 2023, Taylor Swift will perform in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium for six days. It will be her last concert in North America before she takes her tour to Latin American countries. But the elected officials are pleading with Taylor Swift to postpone her ‘Eras Tour’ concert due to workers’ protests in Southern California.
The elected officials supported Unite Here Local 11 by signing a letter to urge Taylor Swift to stand in solidarity with the workers demanding fair wages. Due to the ‘folklore’ artist‘s sold-out shows, there is an increase in demand and revenue for local hotels. However, the negotiations between the workers and hotel companies are still ongoing.
Eleni Kounalakis, the lieutenant governor of California, signed the letter, which stated, “The hotels are making more money than ever, but many workers cannot afford to live close to where they work. Some of them even sleep in their cars between shifts. Others are at risk of losing their homes.”
It continued, “Hotel workers are fighting for their lives. They are fighting for a living wage. They have gone on strike. Now they are asking for your support.” The letter referenced the artist’s third studio album and asked her to ‘Speak Now.’

What Are The Demands Of The Workers?
Since July, many workers have come to the streets to protest against the unfair wages compared to the cost of living in LA. It is difficult to sustain life in Los Angeles County due to skyrocketing property prices and exorbitant rents.
The workers, along with the help of Unite Here Local 11, are negotiating with the hotel companies to raise the wages to $5 per hour and a $3 per hour increase per year. They are also demanding health care benefits and pension plans and banning the e-Verify system, which gives information about the immigration status of a worker.
However, the Coordinated Bargaining Corp., an organization representing 44 hotels, has leveled charges of unfair labor practices against the organization. They claim that Unite Here Local 11 failed to respond to their counteroffer and opted to strike.
