It was devastating when news came out that Shania Twain may never be able to sing again due to dysphonia affecting her vocals. However, the Queen of Country Pop did not get deterred and released the smashing album ‘Now’ in 2018. The resilience and perseverance of Shania are noteworthy. Even during the pandemic, she was badly affected due to Covid pneumonia. Now, she is again back on the scene with her new album ‘Queen of Me’.
The tragedy in her life has been never ending since her infamous divorce in 2008 from Mutt Lange. In 2008, Twain found out that the South African producer is cheating on her. The two worked together on albums like ‘The Woman In Me’ and ‘Come On Over’. During the promotional interviews, Shania told that she rejected the R&B and pop icon Prince’s offer to collaborate on a heartbreak album.

Why Did Shania Twain Turn Down Prince’s Offer
During a conversation with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Shania Twain talked about a possible collaboration between the ‘Sign O’ The Times’ artist and her. When Prince offered her to be a part of a heartbreak album, Shania refused to come on board. She was going through a divorce which was not settled and the infidelity wound was also fresh for the artist. He wanted to make something like ‘Rumors’, the Fleetwood Mac album.
While talking about why she said no to him, Shania said, “I missed out on that because Prince called me when I got divorced. “We’re on the phone and he said, ‘Shania, why don’t you come to Paisley Park? I want to make the next ‘Rumours’ album with you’. And that was the weirdest thing he could have ever have said, because Mutt – his standard of what he thought, where I could live as a standard – was that album, ‘Rumours’ album”.

The Artist Was Still Struggling With Lyme Disease
At the time, when he offered her the album Shania did not feel ready. She told Zane, “When Prince said that to me, I’m like, ‘Oh man, I’m not even divorced yet.’ I’m just like, ‘I’ve been dumped,’ but I’m not, obviously, divorced yet. I’m like, this is way too ironic what you’re saying. Right? And I’m such a major Prince fan”. She continued, “And then on top of it, I hadn’t found my voice yet. I was still working on it. I was so far from finding it still”.
However, another hurdle for Shania to collaborate with Prince was that he was very particular with discipline and language. She shared an anecdote about an incident during the same call. The singer said, “I’m on the phone with him and I’m swearing like I always do. I mean, because I’m just at home. And he said to me, ‘Well if you do decide to come to Paisley Park, there’s no swearing allowed here.’ So that was another strike”.
