Netflix’s ‘Alice in Borderland’ has once again pulled viewers into its mind-bending, emotionally charged, and survival-driven world with the release of season 3. Based on Haro Aso’s manga, the Japanese sci-fi thriller has grown into a global phenomenon, attracting millions of fans with its mix of high-stakes games and psychological drama.
Season 2 ended on what felt like a perfect conclusion for Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya). However, season 3 proved that freedom is never guaranteed in this universe. Now, with season 3 wrapped, speculation about what comes next has been reignited, not only by fans but also by the stars themselves.
‘Alice In Borderland’ Cast Is Willing To Return For More Seasons

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s leads spoke candidly about the future of the series. Kento Yamazaki, who plays Arisu, admitted that being part of a third season was already a dream come true. “I am a fan of the show myself, and to be able to make season three comes with a bit of pressure as well because it’s so beloved by the global audience. But we have such an incredible team that I was just filled with joy on set,” he said.

Importantly, Kento emphasized that he’d be eager to continue should Netflix decide to move forward with season 4. Tao Tsuchiya, who brings Usagi to life, added another layer. “When season two wrapped up, I felt like that was a great way to finish the story, so I was kind of surprised when they presented season three to me! Thinking ahead, obviously, in this season, which you haven’t seen yet, Usagi is pregnant, so there’s going to be a child in the future, and she would love to see that child return [to the normal world], not just the two lead characters.”
“The story is set to be familial, I think that could be really interesting,” she added. This comment reveals a side of Alice in Borderland that fans haven’t seen before. It’s a shift from survival-driven chaos toward themes of family, legacy, and protection. The pregnancy subplot adds urgency to Usagi and Arisu’s choices. Additionally, it also hints that any continuation would need to balance their parental instincts with the constant threat of new games. It’s no longer just about their survival, but the survival of a future generation.
Season 3’s Ambigious Ending Explained

Season 3 followed the established ‘Alice in Borderland‘ formula. It offered six gripping episodes filled with tension, shifting alliances, and heartbreak. Once again, Arisu and Usagi’s relationship was pushed to the brink as they navigated deadly challenges. And once again, when it seemed like the pair had finally escaped, the story pulled the rug from under them.

The final scene of season 3 is both thrilling and cruel: just as Arisu and Usagi believe they have secured a semblance of normalcy, a world-ending event is hinted at. Multiple earthquakes shake Japan, and the introduction of an American waitress expands the universe in surprising ways. Could this mean the games aren’t just confined to Japan? Could the American subplot signal an international dimension in season 4?
Fans have already begun speculating that the next chapter might mirror what ‘Squid Game‘ is reportedly attempting with its own U.S.-set storylines. All in all, viewership numbers will be the deciding factor. Season 2 racked up nearly 60 million hours viewed in its debut week, topping global charts. If season 3 can match or surpass this momentum, the path to season 4 becomes much clearer. Netflix is unlikely to abandon a property that keeps audiences talking and subscribing.
