The ton can survive on uncertainty, but one thing is clear: ‘Bridgerton’ isn’t going anywhere. Netflix has already renewed the Regency juggernaut for seasons 5 and 6, so there are more ballroom glances, forbidden yearnings, and scandalous whispers in sight.
Season 4 ended with Benedict finally getting his happily ever after. However, it also quietly placed two very different Bridgerton sisters at a crossroads. It is no longer a question of whether or not season 5 is occurring, but whose love story will be in the limelight.
The Big Question Hanging Over ‘Bridgerton’ Season 5

The series has traditionally been based on the novels of Julia Quinn in order, until it stopped. The show demonstrated that it has no qualms about rearranging the deck after it adapted Colin’s story before Benedict. Assuming the series goes back to book order, season 5 would be based on Eloise and Sir Phillip Crane. He has already been introduced, and this gives the writers a platform to build on.

However, Eloise’s fierce independence and skepticism toward marriage mean her romantic arc would require thoughtful development and plenty of emotional growth. Conversely, season 4 provided a dramatic twist that appears to be made for Francesca to come out next. She is newly widowed following the tragic death of John Stirling, and she has a tense moment with Michaela Stirling, a gender-swapped adaptation of the book character Michael.
That lingering spark suggests her story, inspired by When He Was Wicked, may arrive sooner rather than later. Showrunner Jess Brownell has affirmed that Eloise and Francesca will be the stars of seasons 5 and 6. The only mystery? The order. And, as is in true ‘Bridgerton’ fashion, the fun is in the suspense.
The Cast And Release Window

The majority of the main cast should also return, with Claudia Jessie portraying Eloise and Hannah Dodd as Francesca. The social world of Mayfair will still be anchored by familiar faces like Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury, and Violet Bridgerton. Lady Whistledown’s voice will still be the flourish of the series.

Season 5 is also said to start filming in March 2026 in the UK. With the usual eight-month production cycle of the show and the long post-production period, a release in the spring of 2027 seems probable, but patience has always been a part of the Bridgerton experience.
Whichever of the two sisters will next enter the limelight, one thing is definite: love will not be easy. And frankly, we could not have it otherwise.
