‘Bridgerton’ Star Simone Ashley Did This Bizarre Thing To Prepare For Sex Scenes

Sex scenes can be tricky to prepare for and perform in front of the camera. So, Simone Ashley employed a very different method to prepare for her intimate scenes in the historical drama, ‘Bridgerton‘.

The show puts the feminine gaze to the forefront and is one of the most popular shows on Netflix. ‘Bridgerton‘ was renewed for a third and fourth season in April. The series is quite known for its steamy sequences. So, what did Simone do to prepare for them? We’ll tell you.

Simone Ashley Prepped For ‘Bridgerton’ Sex Sequences By Watching Snails Mate

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times podcast, the star of two of Netflix’s sexiest dramas, ‘Sex Education‘ and ‘Bridgerton‘, shared that she attended sexual intimacy classes just to break all the weirdness while shooting. She also stated how she studied snail mating behavior to better comprehend the workings of stimulating scenes.

“In Sex Education, we had like a sex intimacy workshop where we completely broke the ice, and you know, anything that was said, it was the most embarrassing or the most vulnerable, but it was a safe, intimate space,” the actress said.

She continued, “And we explored the movement of different animals to kind of portray different paces or different sexualities or how sensual something could be. For example, we look to how snails mate, and when snails mate, they actually produce a plasma that intertwines.”

Simone further expressed how the scenes were shot by referencing the sexual acts of animals. “So if it was a really sensual, slow kind of scene, we’d be like, ‘Oh, it’s like the snail.’ And it’s super like the plasma, like falling like honey. So we would make it about that or how dogs mate or chimpanzees mate. It’s very fast-paced and has a different kind of style. So this kind of scene, we’re going to make it very funny and quirky and just silly, and let’s think of like, this animal.”

The actress stated that ‘Sex Education‘ treats sex scenes “like a dance.” The intimacy coordinators there helped to convey those “awkward, uncomfortable, but also very typical” teenage settings.

Ashley Found ‘Bridgerton’ Set Safe And Comfortable

She claimed that the Bridgerton set was a safe and comfortable place since Ashley and her co-star Jonathan Bailey were “very heard and taken care of.

“You’re making sure that you’re protected and feel safe,” she said. “You’re doing the same for whoever you’re working with, and your co-star and you really have to trust one another. And I definitely found that within ‘Bridgerton’.”

In Hollywood, it seems like snails are having their erotic moment. In Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas’ sensual film ‘Deep Water‘, the shelled animals also made a notable appearance. Two snails mated while being intertwined on Affleck’s hand in one scene. The gastropods pair very reliably, according to Max Anton – the movie’s snail handler. “Any time I get two or three together and put them in the same jar, first they eat every smaller snail in there, and then they mate,” Anton said.
