David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper in the show, recently revealed that the table read for the series finale was an emotional experience for everyone involved. “The end of this episode when we were reading it, just us reading it, about halfway through, people started crying,” Harbour said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people,” he added. The cast members, including Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, and Caleb McLaughlin, have grown up together over the course of the show. 

Moreover, for many of them, ‘Stranger Things’ has been a significant part of their lives. The show premiered in 2016, and its fifth and final season is expected to arrive in 2025. This means that the cast and crew have been working on the show for nearly a decade. 

The emotional attachment they have to the characters is evident in their reactions to the series finale. Additionally, Harbour pointed to the show’s longevity as one reason for emotional reactions during the table read. “These kids, it was their childhood,” he said. “They started the show when they were 11 and 12, and here we are reading the finale,” he added.
