Fans of ‘Heartstopper‘ have been eagerly waiting for the next update about the beloved series’ final chapter. Ever since Netflix confirmed that Nick and Charlie’s story would conclude with a feature-length movie, ‘Heartstopper Forever‘ instead of another season, curiosity about the timeline has only grown stronger.
Now, a fresh update from the show’s creator, Alice Oseman, has given fans a fresh idea of what lies ahead. While the news sheds some light on the release plans for the highly anticipated finale, it also suggests that audiences may need to wait a little longer than expected before the final chapter arrives.
Alice Oseman Explains Why ‘Heartstopper Forever’ Is Being Delayed

Since Season 3 premiered on Netflix in October 2024, anticipation has grown for the final movie. As the official series finale, ‘Heartstopper Forever,’ will adapt Alice Oseman’s sixth and final graphic novel volume. Naturally, as the beloved story approaches its final chapter, the film’s release schedule has become a major point of discussion.
On the production side, however, there have been no significant delays. Filming began in June 2025 and wrapped by late July 2025. Despite that relatively fast turnaround, the gap between Season 3 and the movie will still be the longest break between installments so far.
Adding fuel to the fire, the creator shared an important update on the film’s release timeline during London Book Fair. Oseman confirmed that the decision was intentional. She replied, “It won’t be coming out before the book. It was so important to me that the book come out first, so people could experience the end of the story. The series was the adaptation, not the other way around.“
Right now, the final graphic novel, ‘Heartstopper Volume 6‘, is set to hit shelves on Thursday, July 2, in the United Kingdom, and on Tuesday, July 7, in the United States. Because of that timing, fans can rule out the possibilities of an early July premiere.
Fans May Have To Wait, But The Ending Is Near

Although the delay may feel frustrating for eager viewers, it also ensures the story reaches audiences as Oseman originally intended.
First, readers will experience Nick and Charlie’s emotional ending through the final graphic novel. Then, shortly afterward, they will be able to watch those moments come to life on screen.

Even though Netflix already confirmed a 2026 release, no exact premiere date has been confirmed yet. Unfortunately, viewers will probably have to wait until late summer 2026. Or there could even be a fall release on the cards to see the duo one final time on screen.
Until then, fans will simply have to stay patient and wait for more updates.
