‘Peaky Blinders’ Direct Sequel Confirmed As Netflix Greenlights Multi-Season Follow-Up

The world of ‘Peaky Blinders’ is coming back in full force, this time with not just a movie, but an entire sequel series confirmed by Netflix. Fans who thought the Shelby story wrapped with season six can rejoice, because the universe is ready for another ambitious chapter.

After months of speculation surrounding the upcoming movie ‘The Immortal Man’, Netflix has now officially ordered a two-season sequel series.

Next Generation Of Shelbys Will Lead Netflix’s ‘Peaky Blinders’ Sequel Series

Each season will feature six episodes, mirroring the original show’s structure and tone. The series will be produced in collaboration with the BBC and Netflix, airing on BBC One in the U.K. and streaming globally on Netflix. Cillian Murphy, who gave life to the unforgettable Tommy Shelby, will return as an executive producer alongside creator Steven Knight. Murphy’s on-screen return hasn’t been confirmed for the series itself. However, his involvement behind the scenes offers hope to long-time viewers who hold his character close.

Moreover, what makes this announcement even more exciting is its timeline. The sequel series will pick up after the events of ‘The Immortal Man’, the upcoming ‘Peaky Blinders‘ film set to release next year. The movie will serve as a narrative bridge between the original series and this new era of Shelbys, providing continuity and a dramatic handoff to the next generation. And that next generation is exactly where the spotlight is headed.

The sequel’s official logline sets the tone for a post-war landscape. “Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger, with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

The shift to 1953 places the story at a pivotal moment in British history. The nation is recovering from the devastation of World War II, and Birmingham is rising again through industry, reconstruction, and power struggles. This setting naturally opens the door to new political rivalries and criminal ambitions. So, it’s a perfect landscape for the Shelbys to either thrive or fall. However, this time, it won’t be Thomas Shelby at the wheel.

Steven Knight has made it clear that the narrative will focus on the next generation of the Shelby family. Speaking on this creative shift of the upcoming show, Steven Knight shared his excitement. “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again, it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys has taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.”

In case you missed it: Is ‘Peaky Blinders’ Based On A Real Story?

His words point to a torch being passed, not a story being rewritten. Rather than abandoning the past, the sequel series will build on it. That said, with Knight, Murphy, and veteran director Tom Harper all actively involved, there’s comfort in knowing the show’s DNA remains intact. When ‘Peaky Blinders‘ concluded in 2022 after six seasons, it wasn’t with finality; it was with potential. The ending left Tommy Shelby alive, changed, and looking into a new future.

It was a conclusion that closed one book while leaving another on the table. Over the years, ‘Peaky Blinders’ transformed from a gritty British period drama into a global sensation. It launched careers, redefined television style, and turned flat caps and three-piece suits into symbols of power and rebellion. However, with that success comes pressure. Can the new series live up to its predecessor’s reputation?
