‘Riverdale‘ has arguably been one of television’s longest-running programs with seven seasons under its belt and a sizable fan base. The show follows a group of high school kids as they confront the difficulties of friendship, romance, and family while learning disturbing truths and delving into a variety of mysteries. It’s based on the Archie comics and is heavily inspired by but altered from the plotline. The show has also frequently received criticism for being ridiculous at times and also for being longer than necessary.
As the seventh season comes to a close, the ‘Riverdale‘ cast talks about the criticism the show gets and how it’s difficult to be the ‘butt of a joke’. Here’s how the cast defended the show’s absurdity.
How The Cast Defended ‘Riverdale’

Lili Reinhart, KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, and other cast members gathered ahead of the August 23 series finale for a Vulture interview in which they discussed the ending of their show after seven seasons of airing. Speaking of the show and what they’ll miss, they also spoke about the criticism they had to face about the show.
“I think it’s important to acknowledge that our show is made fun of a lot,” Lili Reinhart said. “People see clips taken out of context and are like, What? I thought this was about teenagers. And we thought so as well — in season one. But it’s really not been easy to feel that you’re the butt of a joke. We all want to be actors; we’re passionate about what we do. So when the absurdity of our show became a talking point, it was difficult.”
Camila Mendes also compared the show’s ridiculous elements with Marvel, saying “Superhero movies are the main thing at the box office these days, and those are the most absurd stories you could imagine!”
“You’ve got a f—ing talking raccoon fighting aliens in space! No one’s like, ‘This makes no sense.’ We’re a comic book; it’s supposed to be fun and fictional and weird. If you want to watch a teen show where there’s just a bunch of kids in a high school dealing with relationship drama, there’s a lot out there.” After this, Cole Sprouse suggested they can watch Zendaya-starrer ‘Euphoria‘.

‘Riverdale’ Ending

The Season 6 finale, ‘Goodbye, Riverdale,‘ continues the storylines from the previous episode. It shows an 86-year-old Betty recalling everything that took place before the comet hit in the previous episode. Betty still yearns to go back to when she was younger. She ends up recreating the end of senior year with her friends with the help of a special friend.
So, it ends with the friendship and darkness that marked the characters’ journeys. After all, Riverdale has to tie up connections in odd ways.
