“It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. The second season of ‘Squid Game‘ was essentially a known thing after the show’s superlative success on Netflix. By a long shot, the first season marked the streamer’s biggest TV show ever, logging 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the first four weeks of its release last fall.

The director had hinted at a second season in the weeks following the show’s breakthrough. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos officially confirmed more episodes were on the way in January. Hwang has since then indicated that a follow-up would soon delight fans. The episodes are likely to premiere near the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024.

In the meantime, the series emerged as an awards heavyweight. The show scored a slew of nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. It included wins for Lee Jung-jae and HoYeon Jung in their respective gendered categories for outstanding performances in a drama series. Netflix is now eyeing the Emmy season. Nominations will be announced on July 12.

Netizens React To The New Teaser

The sudden announcement about ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 surprised fans. Some netizens were confused and creeped out, while others reacted positively to the news with heartwarming comments and, of course, memes.

Some fans were of the opinion that adding another ‘creepy’ doll isn’t the best decision, while others asserted that Young-hee and Cheol-su can be the new ‘power couple’.

Few social media users were concerned about the quality of the content of the second season. Some of them were just trying to voice their high expectations.
