The highly anticipated Netflix anime spin-off of ‘The Terminator‘, titled ‘Terminator Zero’, debuted on the platform at the end of August. With only a mere 8 episodes in its first season, many fans have already binge-watched and finished the whole season.
Fans have been left wanting more and much to their relief, the show creator Mattson Tomlin has revealed plans for the story to unfold and span multiple seasons. Here’s all that fans can expect.
Mattson Tomlin Discusses Multi-Season Layered Storyline
Before season one of ‘Terminator Zero‘ premiered, creator Mattson Tomlin shared on social media that he has envisioned a story arc that could go deep into the future war between humans and the machines over the course of three to five seasons. However, he acknowledged that extending beyond one season would depend on external factors such as audience engagement and response.
With highly positive critical reviews and fan response so far, it seems viewers are invested in this dark anime adaptation of the classic James Cameron franchise.
In a recent interview, Tomlin discussed his overall vision for the future of the show, stating that the story he has crafted provides enough storyline material for “at least three full seasons”. Tomlin said that season one just sets the groundwork for the larger conflict to arise by introducing the main characters and providing context for the escalating Skynet and human resistance war.

Tomlin also teased some plot points he has planned for future seasons. He hinted that season 2 would dive deeper into the future war and depict “many epic battles between formidable terminators and hardened humans fighting for survival“.
Tomlin added that the true leaders of Skynet would be revealed along with their wicked plans that “will shock audiences”. On top of this, long-running mystery arcs and character journeys will be explored further on.
Potential For a Terminator Zero Renewal By Netflix
Reception to ‘Terminator Zero’ from both critics and viewers has been overwhelmingly positive so far. On sites like Rotten Tomatoes, the first season holds a Certified Fresh status with critics and also a high audience score to go along with it as well. Fans on social media have expressed extreme interest for a second season, and there’s also potential for the story to become a long-running anime franchise.

With such strong early fan reactions, the chances seem very likely that Netflix will renew ‘Terminator Zero’ for a second season. The streaming platform usually allows new originals for at least two seasons to find an audience.
Given the fact that the series is based on a franchise already popular, there is genuine interest around it. As long as viewing numbers remain strong, Tomlin’s vision for a multi-season storyline looks more than likely. Fans will no doubt be keeping their fingers crossed for an official renewal in the coming months from Netflix.
