Netflix is all set to release ‘The Night Agent‘ Season 3 on February 19, 2026. It brings back Gabriel Basso as the iconic FBI agent Peter Sutherland. However, fans are saddened over Rose Larkin’s departure. Played by Luciane Buchanan, Larkin became a fan favourite character.
Viewers were certainly excited to witness more of Peter and Rose’s romance. Their bond was among the central storylines of the thriller show. So, why was Rose cut from the upcoming season? Clearly, the decision is not sitting well with fans.
Luciane Buchanan Opens Up About Leaving ‘The Night Agent’ Before Season 3

In an interview with Deadline, Luciane Buchanan talked about stepping away from ‘The Night Agent.’ She also noted how playing Rose Larkin on the Netflix thriller turned out great for her career as an actress.
“I won’t be returning to Season 3 of The Night Agent. As much as the show has been so amazing, especially for my career…being a lead on a U.S. show from little New Zealand was such a whirlwind,” she said.

The reason for her exit? According to Buchanan, the writers decided to follow Peter’s journey without the shadow of Rose. However, there could be a potential cameo in the future. “We don’t get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever,” added Buchanan.
With Rose not being a part of ‘The Night Agent‘ Season 3 storyline, it would mean major shifts in the overall plot and Peter’s character development.
The Reason Behind Rose Larkin’s Exit And What It Means For Peter’s Future

Rose might’ve been a hapless hunted girl when the show premiered, but over the course of two seasons, she became an essential partner to Peter. She grounded him, helped in Night Action missions, and emerged as a force to be reckoned with, despite all her trauma.
Creator, showrunner, and executive producer Shawn Ryan praised Luciane Buchanan and talked about Peter and Rose’s dynamic with Deadline: “Her portrayal of Rose Larkin and Rose’s relationship with Peter has been a huge part of the show’s success.”

He also mentioned how each season is aimed at a new story, and when the writing for the third season began, they didn’t have a “satisfying place for Rose.” Despite writing the character off the script, Ryan noted that there might be a possibility for Luciane to return for a Peter-Rose reunion. The actress is game for such a scenario in future seasons. It depends on the story and fans.
Since fans won’t be seeing Rose in ‘The Night Agent‘ Season 3, that means we’ll get new character introductions. Peter will be heading into solo missions, without Rose waiting for him on the other end. His impulsive, self-destructive instincts could become dominant.
But more importantly, Peter is being thrust into his most dangerous mission yet, one that destroyed his father: becoming a double agent. Playing both sides means going deeper into morally murky territory, and without Rose’s influence, it remains to be seen just how far Peter is willing to go. As for what becomes of Peter in the end, the show has taught us that survival never comes with peace. Rose’s absence will definitely be felt.
