Hardly any series has revived the romance genre as ‘Bridgerton’ has. Every season reshuffles the emotional deck, highlighting a new love affair with its own unique blend of longing, scandal, and slow-burning tension.
However, as all couples have their time in the sun, not all sparks shine equally bright. Certain couples just linger longer than others.
Ranking ‘Bridgerton’s Most Passionate Romances

Francesca Bridgerton and John Stirling are at the softer end of the scale. Their relationship is gentle and self-reflective, founded on mutual silence and gentle devotion. It is romantic in a bookish, literary sense. However, when compared to the more stormy relationships in the series, their love is gentle and not a raging fire.

Then came Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. Friends-to-lovers plots rely solely on chemistry, and as soon as Colin’s feelings snap into focus, the shift is palpable. Their relationship is deserved, even redemptive. However, due to the multiplicity of storylines in their season, their romance does not always have the breathing room it warrants. When they coincide, however, the heat is dropped.
Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek add more tension to the ballroom. Their cross-class romance has actual stakes, and season four plays into that in the most beautiful way. Still, the fact that it takes Benedict a long time to realize that Sophie was not who she claimed to be somewhat diminishes the emotional tension. The fire is present, yet it never really sparks.
The late-in-life romance between Violet Bridgerton and Marcus Anderson is surprisingly exciting. It is very gratifying to see desire rediscovered. Their flirtation is light but solid, full of maturity rather than angst, and it’s impossible not to root for them. Then there is Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.
The desire is unquestionable since the moment their fake courtship starts. The looks, the breaks, the notorious I burn for you confession, their chemistry determined the sensual tone of the show and established a precedent that would be pursued by future seasons.

However, there is no romance in ‘Bridgerton’ that is as intense as what we saw in season 2, between Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma. Their enemies-to-lovers plot is full of stinging dialogue and smouldering restraint. Each close contact felt sensual. The fact that they are resistant to love only increases the tension, and the payoff is so intoxicating in the end.
A single glance between them sets that fire ablaze even seasons later. In a series built on passion, some couples charm, but others combust. And when it comes to unforgettable chemistry, Kate and Anthony still leave scorch marks.
