Why ‘Virgin River’ Season 7 Could Be The Netflix Drama’s Most Emotional Chapter Yet

In Short
  • The 'Virgin River' Season 7 trailer hints at significant emotional turmoil for characters, starting with Jack and Mel's pregnancy journey.
  • Unresolved cliffhangers from Season 6, including Charmaine's twins and Brie’s proposal, remain a focal point for the upcoming season.
  • The season will explore heavier themes, including illness and new relationships, while introducing fresh characters and drama.

The new ‘Virgin River‘ Season 7 trailer opens with a happy moment. Then, instantly, it takes away all the bliss. Jack and Mel finally seem settled after their wedding, but within seconds, the future becomes uncertain again.

Around them, almost everyone in town faces a big change, a loss, or a difficult decision. From babies to illness to relationship doubts, the next season of the Netflix hit looks ready to hit emotions harder than ever.

We’re having a baby,” Jack and Mel say excitedly at the start of the trailer, and for a moment, everything feels happy for them. After everything they’ve been through, it feels like they finally get their happy ending. But that hope changes fast. Marley, the patient who had asked them to adopt her unborn baby, later asks for more time, leaving them heartbroken. Mel admits she didn’t expect it to hurt this much to feel hopeful again.

Jack comforts her and reminds her that love was always risky, yet they chose it anyway. At the same time, they move out of the cabin that held six seasons of memories and into a new ranch. Mel says, “This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.” However, as fans know, things had never been easy for Mel when it came to her becoming a mother.

They also pick a honeymoon destination somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere, though the trailer cuts away before revealing it. Reports say filming took place in Mexico, where the actors were spotted shooting scenes, suggesting their new lives may truly take them far from where their story began.

Unanswered Cliffhangers Continue To Impact Virgin River Residents

The trailer avoids answering the biggest cliffhanger from the Season 6 finale involving Charmaine and her twins, leaving that emotional story unresolved. It also never shows Brie’s answer to Mike’s proposal, though the two appear briefly together while she and Brady seem to settle into a friendship.

Jack’s business partner and long-time friend, Preacher, also found a meaningful relationship with a firefighter, Kaia. Despite having opposing views on marriage, the two decided to make their relationship work. Meanwhile, Doc fights to save his clinic and tells the townspeople that even if some lost faith in him, caring for them has always been personal.

Lizzie and Danny welcome their baby, but the scenes hint that Lizzie may feel overwhelmed as a new mom, another emotional storyline growing alongside Jack and Mel’s. The season also explores heavier themes. Muriel continues her cancer treatment, bringing serious emotion into the town’s daily life.

Doc also forms an unexpected friendship with Everett. There are hints of a possible Doc-Roland-Hope love triangle, which could stir old feelings again. And a new bull-riding character played by Cody Kearsley arrives in town, likely bringing fresh drama just when everyone is already dealing with so much.

With so many of these much-awaited moments to be covered in the seventh season, fans are surely in for an emotional treat. It remains to be seen how new characters and their storylines will play out alongside the existing couples and their dynamics. ‘Virgin River‘ Season 7 will be released on Netflix on March 12, 2026.
