Ayesha Curry and Family: Did NBA WAG Get Pressured into Having Kids?

Ayesha Curry has become a well-known figure alongside her husband, NBA superstar Stephen Curry. While many fans know her for her entrepreneurial ventures and social media presence, Ayesha recently revealed on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast that embracing motherhood was never part of her initial life plan.

Before meeting Stephen Curry, Ayesha was focused on her professional ambitions. She shared that marriage and children were not her initial plan.

I didn’t want kids. I didn’t wanna get married. I thought I was gonna be a career girl and that’s it. And I had my eyes set on my goals, and I was never the little girl that, like, dreamt about the wedding dress and all of that,” said Ayesha Curry, talking on the podcast that has now created controversy.

After meeting Curry in their teenage years, Ayesha experienced a life-changing shift. She admitted to knowing instantly that Stephen was her life partner, saying:

“I just knew that I loved him and I’d never experienced anything else. I’d never felt any differently than, like, this is who I wanna spend the rest of my life with. And so we kinda just dove in”.

At 22, she married the Warriors star, setting aside her prior reservations about settling down. Ayesha’s plans quickly changed when she became pregnant with their first child, Riley, only three months into married life.

The birth of their daughter marked a turning point for Ayesha. She described how, as Riley grew, her identity and ambitions started to reshape. She talked about how, after getting married, she became pregnant with her daughters so quickly that she didn’t really have time to think about what she wanted for herself.

She had spent her whole life working toward certain goals, but once motherhood began, those goals seemed to disappear, and she didn’t question it at the time. It wasn’t until after her daughter turned one that things started to shift for her. She began to realize that she still had personal goals and dreams. Even though she loved being a mom, she also loved doing other things and wanted to make space for that side of herself again.

Ayesha’s journey into motherhood inspired her to pursue entrepreneurial ventures while balancing family life. Today, Ayesha Curry is a mother of four, managing businesses like Sweet July Skin and International Smoke.

Ayesha Curry and Steph’s first moments embracing parenthood in public

During the 2015 NBA playoffs, Riley Curry, just two years old, became an overnight media sensation. Stephen Curry’s firstborn displayed uninhibited charm at a Golden State Warriors press conference, climbing onto her father’s lap and enthusiastically speaking into the microphone while cameras rolled. The scene quickly drew widespread attention, generating countless reactions from viewers and fans.

Ayesha Curry addressed the internet buzz with a feature in Time.com, reflecting on Riley’s spirited stage moment. Instead of responding to criticism, she celebrated Riley’s authenticity, saying:

“Some thought she stole the show. I thought it was beautiful, and I wouldn’t change a thing,” Ayesha wrote. In her words, “My husband handled his duties on the podium with ease and class. And my daughter was who she is — vibrant, spunky, and full of life. I hope she carries this with her through adulthood”.

Ayesha also emphasized the importance of putting family above public image. She admired Stephen’s commitment. She further mentioned how meaningful it was to see Steph Curry stay fully involved as a father even when he was in the spotlight. She admired that he didn’t put his role as a dad last, even with all the attention on him.

She also shared her belief that kids should be allowed to enjoy being kids, and that parents shouldn’t hold back from parenting just because other people are watching. Steph and Ayesha Curry welcomed three more children: daughter Ryan, now nine, son Canon, six, and baby Caius, who was born a year ago. Each child has enjoyed their own moments in the NBA limelight.
