Wendy Rush is the wife of the OceanGate CEO, the company who conducts the tours of the Titanic wreckage. She herself is the director of communications of the company.
Her husband Stockton Rush was piloting the submarine when the unfortunate incident occurred. However, there is a super interesting fact behind Wendy Rush.
Rush is the great-great-granddaughter of a couple on the Titanic. Isidor and Ida Straus died on the ship when it got hit by an iceberg. Him and his wife Ida were first-class wealthy passengers on the Titanic. Isidor Strauss was the co-owner of the well-known department store Macy’s.
Wendy is the descendant of Isidor and Ida Strauss. Her ancestors are related to one of Straus’ daughters on her father’s side. The internet has split on the opinion of whether this is a coincidence or a curse.

What Happened To Isidor And Ida On Titanic?
Isidor and Ida chose to die on the Titanic together. Their great-grandson Paul A. Kurzman told their story on the Today Show and it is heartbreaking. When the Titanic was hit by the iceberg, women and children were given priority on the lifeboats. But due to Isidor’s age and status, an exception was made for him.
However, Isidor denied the offer. Kurzman said, “And, my great-grandfather said, ‘No. Until I see that every woman and child on board this ship is in a lifeboat, I will not enter into a lifeboat myself.'” And when the love of her life decided to stay back, Ida stayed with him. Ellen Bird, Ida’s maid, was also present on the ship. She witnessed the couple’s last moments on the sinking vessel.
Kurzman recounted, “Isidor wrapped his arms around her. Then, a great wave came over the port side of the ship and swept them both into the sea. That was the last time they were seen alive.” Although Isidor’s remains were found later, Ida’s were never discovered.
And this tragic story inspired one of the most iconic scenes in the movie ‘Titanic‘. James Cameron got so inspired by the couple’s unfortunate ending that he put them in the film. The scene were an elderly couple are seen embracing on the bed as their room floods is inspired by the Straus’.
