Recently Discovery merged with Warner Media and formed WarnerBros.Discovery. The new CEO of the merged entity, David Zaslav has a lot of future plans for the DC movies. He wants to restore the DC movies back to their previous glory. So the CEO is making a lot of changes in the company.
David Zaslav Wants A Single Voice For The DC Universe
After the merger of both Discovery and Warner Media, CEO David Zaslav is very eager to make some changes. He wants to establish the DC Universe as one of the best entertainment franchises. Recently the DC movies and shows did not create the buzz they wanted among the fans compared to the Marvel movies and shows. MCU came up with back-to-back hits and didn’t let their fans take a breather even once. Zaslav wants the exact same thing for the DC Universe.
Some fans have already said that DC needs someone like Kevin Feige to be a single voice in the DC Universe. Looks like Zaslav has finally paid some heed to the fans’ wishes and is thinking of recruiting the ‘Joker‘ director, Todd Phillips as an advisor for the DC Universe. Sources have told THR that David Zazlav has asked Todd Phillips to “do more in the DC Universe” and potentially act as an advisor. If he decided to accept the offer he’ll become an advisor but won’t be serving “in an executive capacity.”
Why does David Zaslav Think The ‘Joker’ Director Is The Right Fit?
Ever since “Joker” was released back in 2019 it created a lot of buzz among the fans. The movie earned more than $1 billion at the global box office and was the first R-rated movie to do so. It was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and Joaquin Phoenix won in the Best Actor category due to his amazing acting. Thus Zaslav has a lot of expectations from Todd Phillips and wants him to be an advisor for DC.
Walter Hamada is currently responsible for looking at the production department of the DC Universe and other related ventures. But after the sources informed regarding the exit of Toby Emmerich as Warner Bros, Picture Group chairman Hamada’s fate became very blurry. Zaslav is planning on restructuring Warner Bros. completely into three separate branches. Among them, one will entirely focus on DC movies which signify their importance to Zaslav.
Many fans have already requested Todd for a sequel of “Joker” but he said he always envisioned the movie as a single one-of-its-kind film.
