One of the menacing characters in the Batman universe is Harley Quinn. Quinn was introduced in the comics as comic relief for the antagonist Joker. In the comics, Harley is the psychiatrist at Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum. There she meets Joker, who is her patient and falls in love with him. However, DC introduced the character in their universe with the 2016’s ‘Suicide Squad’. Margot Robbie shone in playing the femme fatale along with other villainous characters in the squad.
However, now she is passing the baton to Lady Gaga, who will feature in the sequel of ‘Joker‘. The actress is currently on a promotional spree for her upcoming film ‘Amsterdam’. During an interview with MTV News, she responded to the new casting of Harley Quinn. Does Robbie approve of the casting?
“It Makes Me So Happy”: Margot Robbie On Lady Gaga Playing Harley Quinn
In June, the buzz was strong that the ‘Born This Way’ artist is in talks to play Harley Quinn. Finally, it was confirmed that she will star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Philips’ musical. The title of the film is ‘Joker: Folie à Deux.’ In three DC films, Margot sketched the love interest or sidekick of the clown. She first appeared in 2016’s ‘Suicide Squad’ with Jared Leto, Cara Delevingne, and others to form the OG villain squad in the city. Since then, she has reprised her role twice in ‘Birds Of Prey’ and ‘The Suicide Squad.’
Now, superstar singer Lady Gaga will play the character. Robbie did not respond to the casting, but now she has approved Lady Gaga taking the Quinn legacy forward. During an interview, Robbie was happy to have passed the baton to Gaga.
She said, “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.”

“She’ll Do Something Incredible With It”: The Actress Is Confident About Gaga’s Portrayal
Robbie also feels that every performer has an opportunity to make a character iconic. Citing an example, she said, “And I feel like in not so many cases are they female characters. Queen Elizabeth I, but like beyond that — which I got to have a crack at as well, which I was honored to do. I was like, ‘Wow, Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I get to.’ “
She also seemed confident that Gaga can pull off the character perfectly. The Australian actress said, “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters who other actors get to have a go at playing. And I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”
