As the U.S. Open takes over headlines again, old allegations against Donald Trump are making the rounds. Among the many, one claim about the 1997 tournament has come up, as a former model, Amy Dorris, says Trump assaulted her during the event.
Dorris first went public with her story in 2020 when she described her assault and talked about how an incident dating back to the U. S. Open 1997 left her feeling violated. Now, with the U.S. Open back in the spotlight, her accusations are again sparking fresh debate.
One More Assault Claim Against Donald Trump

The U.S. Open is popular for tennis legends, roaring crowds, and celebrity-filled VIP boxes. But for Amy Dorris, the 1997 tournament carries a scarred memory that has nothing to do with sport. Her then-boyfriend, publisher Jason Binn, invited Dorris, and the couple joined Trump’s private suite for several days of tennis.

But one such day, September 5, 1997, took a horrific turn when Dorris was stepping out of the bathroom and found Trump waiting outside. At first, she thought he was simply in line to use the facilities. But within moments, she claims, the situation took a disturbing turn.
According to Dorris, “He just shoved his tongue down my throat and his hands were everywhere on my butt, my breasts, my back. I couldn’t pull away.” She remembers pushing against him, even trying to block his tongue with her teeth. Even though the struggle ended quickly, for her, the damage was done, “I felt sick. I felt violated,” she said.
The Reason Amy Spoke Against Donald Trump

Dorris did not keep the experience to herself. In the hours and days after, she confided in her mother, a close friend, and a therapist. Over the years, she repeated her account to others, and those individuals have since confirmed the consistency of her story.
She also kept physical reminders. Her ticket from the U.S. Open remains intact, along with six photographs showing her with Trump during that week. In one photo, the dividing wall outside the bathroom (the very spot where she says the incident occurred) is visible in the background.

Still, skeptics have raised questions. Dorris continued to spend time in Trump’s company in the days following the alleged assault. She attended another day at the tournament and later accompanied him to the memorial service for designer Gianni Versace. To some, this undermines her claim. Even Trump has denied Dorris’s allegation through his legal team. His lawyers rejected her story “in the strongest possible terms” and argued it could not withstand scrutiny.
However, Dorris insists otherwise. Dorris said she wanted to avoid confrontation and did not know how to bring herself out of such a situation without causing a scene. She also admits to considering coming forward in 2016, when several women accused Trump of misconduct during his first presidential run. But with young children at home, she feared the impact on her family.
By 2020, her twin daughters were approaching adolescence, and she says the need to set an example outweighed her fears. “I want them to know you don’t let anybody do anything to you that you don’t want,” she explained. “I’d rather be a role model. I want them to see that I didn’t stay quiet.”
However, Amy Dorris is not the first woman to make such a claim. In fact, she’s probably the 26th woman to accuse Trump of assault or r***. Given that there were so many past allegations against Trump, the reactions have been split down the middle. Supporters insist the stories are politically motivated, pointing to the timing. But critics see a disturbing pattern across decades, professions, and circumstances.
