With the advent of AI in creative spaces, it seems filmmaking isn’t spared from the ordeal as well. This is especially true for ElevenLabs, which acquired the license to recreate the voice of the Marvel legend Stan Lee.

The global AI company would use the late comic creator’s voice for narration, sparking controversy among netizens. Here’s everything we know about it so far!

As reported by Variety, Marvel legend Stan Lee’s voice will now be recreated by AI.

Eleven Labs, whose headquarters are situated in London, recently gained the rights to use the late comic book writer’s voice for its projects.

Companies would also be able to license the voice for commercial use, that is, if they strike a deal with Pow! Entertainment and the Stan Lee universe.

The AI software company also has AI voices and IP of famous celebrities, including Michael Caine, Maya Angelou, and so on.

Aside from that, the company released a video of AI Stan Lee saying, “You know what they never tell you about legends? They outlive the page.”

This sparked outrage and disappointment from many internet users who claimed this dishonors the legacy of the late Marvel legend. It is understandable since Lee poured years of hard work into creating some of the most iconic characters, so let’s take a look at his works.

Stan Lee isn’t merely a name; it’s a legacy. He gave us some of the most memorable characters that ultimately shaped our childhood. Lee revolutionized superheroes for 90s and 2000s kids. He did work on the character back in 1962, but it paved the way for superhero storytelling.

From Spider-Man, Hulk, and Iron Man to Fantastic Four and X-Men, Lee is estimated to have created around 500 characters. He started his journey when he created Deadline, aka Jerry Hunter.

He began his career in the 1930s, but his big break came in the 60s when Fantastic Four rose to popularity. It is one of his defining works alongside Black Panther, Daredevil, and the iconic Spider-Man himself.

Lee also appeared in various cameo roles in the Marvel Universe films. He also produced the films within the franchise, but his finesse doesn’t end there.

Apart from Marvel, he also worked on DC’s characters. He reimagined them in his 2001 miniseries, namely, Just Imagine. He also lent his voice to various video games like Lego Marvel Superheroes, Spider-Man, and animated series such as The Simpsons and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

So while it may seem an exciting venture to recreate this Marvel legend’s voice, it seems controversial and contentious for the most part. Stan Lee’s contributions to Marvel, DC, and the entire Comic Book universe are unmatched. It is understandable why fans feel it is a dishonorable move, even years after his passing.
