How ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Will Establish ‘Loki’ As The Most Important MCU Project Since The Infinity Saga

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga has been a rollercoaster ride for fans. While a lot of new projects have struggled to recapture why the Infinity Saga was, there were some that it.

Among them, ‘Loki’ has now become the most significant installment since ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The show will set the stage for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ as confirmed by the casting announcement.

Marvel recently officially confirmed the casting for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Moreover, it’s safe to say that it has confirmed that ‘Loki’ did in fact was a very important MCU installment. Tom Hiddleston’s return as Loki in the upcoming Avengers further solidifies this.

Loki’s evolution from villain to hero has been one of the most profound arcs in the MCU. Loki was the mischievous and power-hungry brother of Thor. However, he later became the primary antagonist of The Avengers. His arc saw numerous betrayals, shifting allegiances, and even moments of redemption.

This then culminated in his tragic death at the hands of Thanos in Infinity War. However, the show reintroduced the God of Mischief by plucking a variant version of him straight from ‘Endgame’. This version of Loki had not experienced any of the events. Yet, through his journey with the TVA (Time Variance Authority), he found a deeper purpose.

The TVA, first introduced in ‘Loki’, became the framework through which the MCU’s multiverse was explored. The end of Season 2 saw Loki making the ultimate sacrifice by taking on the responsibility of holding the multiverse together. Becoming the God of Stories, he ensured the survival of infinite realities while condemning himself to an eternal, isolated fate.

This act positioned him as one of the most powerful beings in the MCU. This also made him a natural counterforce against future threats like Doctor Doom. Now, with Loki’s return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, his sacrifice is likely to be acknowledged by the wider MCU.

The Multiverse Saga has introduced key elements that will play pivotal roles in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Incursions, which were first mentioned in ‘Doctor Strange 3’, will be a major driving force of the story. These were catastrophic collisions between universes that could destroy realities.

In Marvel Comics, ‘Secret Wars’ revolves around a patchwork world known as Battleworld. ‘Loki’ introduced The Void, a place at the end of time where discarded universes and variants go to die. Additionally, the void is suspected to be the MCU’s version of Battleworld. ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ further reinforced the TVA’s role in multiversal management.

So, it is evident that Loki’s sacrifice in Loki Season 2 is directly tied to the Avengers’ upcoming battles. With Doctor Doom being the main antagonist, it’s likely he will seek out Loki’s control over the multiverse. This sets up an insane showdown between them. Moreover, the most intriguing aspect of Loki’s return is the potential for his redemption to be recognized.

Aside from Mobius and Sylvie, no one in the MCU truly saw or understood the sacrifice Loki made. His transformation into the God of Stories allowed the multiverse to exist. However, he himself has remained absent. Now, the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ provides the perfect opportunity for all this to unfold.
