“I’m Taking It Very Personally!”: Glen Powell Responds To Fans’ Outrage Over A Missing Kiss In ‘Twisters’

Glen Powell is no stranger to stormy situations, both on and off the screen. If you’ve caught the mid-July release of ‘Twisters’, the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 classic ‘Twister,’ you’ve probably noticed that something crucial was missing. Powell takes on the role of Tyler Owens, a confident storm chaser who isn’t afraid to face down a tornado or two. Alongside him is Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate, his equally fearless partner in weather-related crime.

Now, for all the sparks that flew between Tyler and Kate, you’d think they’d seal the deal with a kiss, right? Well, guess again. Despite the cute chemistry and tension between the two leads, there’s no kiss in the final cut of the movie. Cue the collective groan from fans who had been rooting for these two to lock lips in a moment of triumph. But what’s really going on here?

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Glen Powell got candid about the backlash over the missing kiss scene in ‘Twisters.’ Promoting his upcoming Audible Original podcast, ‘The Best Man’s Ghostwriter‘ (which drops on September 12, in case you’re wondering), Powell didn’t hold back when it came to addressing the disappointment from fans. “I’m taking it very personally!” he said.

He continued, “I’m sure you’ve seen the behind-the-scenes, where I did get to kiss Daisy Edgar-Jones, which really is all that counts. [Laughs] We had a great time, and I’m really proud of the movie.” Honestly, you’ve got to admire his optimism.

Powell also emphasized that the response from fans has been nothing short of amazing. “I really think that even that [backlash] shows that people care, which is really great,” he said.

I just love how excited people have gotten about that movie, and Daisy and I send each other the TikToks and the gifs. There’s so much funny stuff coming out of it. It’s fun. That’s what summer movies are about. It creates this conversation and cultural moment, and people dress up and do the thing. It’s been really awesome. So, kiss or no kiss, everybody’s a winner,” he added.

Let’s break it down: Was cutting the kiss in ‘Twisters‘ really a smart move? Well, the numbers speak for themselves. With a worldwide box office haul of $313.9 million, ‘Twisters’ has been a resounding success, despite the stiff competition. Fans and critics alike have praised the film, calling it a worthy sequel that doesn’t just ride on nostalgia but brings something fresh to the table.

And a big part of that is the dynamic between Tyler and Kate. Their relationship isn’t just a backdrop; it’s integral to the story, giving the movie the emotional weight it needs to keep viewers invested.

The decision to cut the kiss is still a head-scratcher for many. Director Lee Isaac Chung had his reasons, citing everything from shifting audience expectations to preserving Kate’s character arc. Sure, those are valid points. After all, not every action movie needs a forced romantic subplot, and the bond between Tyler and Kate is already strong enough without the need for an on-screen smooch.

That said, you can’t help but wonder what might have been. A kiss between Tyler and Kate could’ve added an extra layer of satisfaction, rounding out the movie with a triumphant moment of connection. But for now, we’ll just have to make do with the behind-the-scenes footage—and Powell’s reassurance that, in the grand scheme of things, “everybody’s a winner.”
