Jacob Elordi had a very special guest by his side at the 2026 Oscars, and it was someone who had been waiting for that moment for more than a decade.
As the Australian actor celebrated his first-ever Academy Award nomination, the ‘Frankenstein‘ star proudly walked in with his mother, Melissa Elordi, finally making good on a vow he had made as a teenager.
Jacob Elordi Finally Keeps His Childhood Promise At the Oscars 2026

Elordi had first revealed his Oscars 2026 date weeks before the ceremony. During a Jan. 27 appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live‘, host Jimmy Kimmel asked him who he planned to bring to Hollywood’s biggest night.

“I’m going to take mom,” Elordi said, explaining that he had made that promise years ago. He added that he told her, when he was 15, that if he were ever nominated for an Oscar, she would be the one accompanying him to the ceremony.
The actor also spoke warmly about the support his mother has shown him throughout his journey in the industry. According to Elordi, she never once doubted that he would make it as an actor.
“My mom fully believed in me the whole time,” he shared. At the same time, he admitted that his father had once taken a more practical approach and reminded him that he might need a backup plan, since acting is not always the most predictable career path.
The Emotional Way Elordi Learned About His Nomination

Melissa Elordi also ended up playing an important role in another key moment of her son’s career as she was the one who told him he had been nominated for an Oscar.

The nomination came for Elordi’s performance in Guillermo del Toro’s latest monster film, ‘Frankenstein‘, where the 28-year-old actor takes on the role of Dr. Frankenstein’s Creature, a transformation that required heavy prosthetics.
Elordi admitted during the same interview that he felt far too nervous to wake up early and watch the nominations announcement himself. Instead, he fell asleep while his mother kept track of the results.
Early that morning, around 5 a.m., he heard her phone ring downstairs. Moments later, he heard her quick footsteps rushing up the stairs. When she reached his room, the expression on her face told him the news immediately.
The actor later said the moment felt incredibly beautiful and much more meaningful than discovering the nomination through social media. Of course, bringing his mom to the ceremony also came with a humorous warning. While Melissa usually stays calm around celebrities, Elordi joked that if she runs into one particular star, John Travolta, he may have to quickly “usher her to the next room.”
The Oscar nomination was already a career milestone for Elordi, but sharing the journey with his mother made the experience even more meaningful.
