James Gunn Addresses The Possibility Of Dave Bautista Joining The DCU As Bane

As James Gunn reshapes the DC Universe, fans have been buzzing with speculation about who might step into iconic roles in his new vision. One actor repeatedly mentioned in these discussions is Dave Bautista.

Bautista is known for his charismatic portrayal of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trilogy. His rugged physicality and nuanced performances have earned him a reputation as a fan favorite. Additionally, many fans want him to play Bane, one of Batman’s most formidable foes.

While fans want Dave Bautista to take on the Mantle of Bane, both James Gunn and the actor himself have poured cold water on the possibility of the actor donning Bane’s iconic mask. Moreover, a recent interview with Gunn on the HappySadConfused podcast shed new light on this topic.

During his podcast appearance, Gunn addressed the much-discussed possibility of Bautista playing Bane. While not definitively closing the door, Gunn’s comments suggested a shift in both his and Bautista’s priorities. “I don’t know if Dave wants to be Bane anymore,” Gunn admitted.

He used to want to be Bane. I think he would much rather be another character than Bane right now,” he added. This aligns with Bautista’s own reflections on the matter. Even if the Bane dream has dimmed, Bautista’s future in the DCU remains promising. Gunn was quick to affirm his enthusiasm for collaborating with the actor again. “Of course, I love Dave, and I wanna work with him again,” he stated.

In a previous interview with Screen Rant, the actor acknowledged that while Bane was once a dream role for him, time and age have shifted his perspective. “I got to a point in my career where I just felt like I was too old to play Bane,” Bautista shared. “I think the physicality of it. At this point in my career and my life, I just wouldn’t be able to do the character justice.

Despite being in his 50’s Bautista remains a commanding presence. However, he has been candid about the toll that physically demanding roles take on his body. Known for his commitment to his craft, he has made it clear he would only take on roles he feels he can portray with authenticity and excellence.

Whether he’s battling the Justice League, embodying a supernatural entity, or surprising us with something entirely new, Bautista’s eventual DCU debut is going to be huge. For now, fans can only speculate and dream about which iconic DC character might be brought to life by the beloved actor.
