If that sounds like a particular film franchise set in space, you’re not wrong. Snyder’s intention was originally to introduce an R-rated entry to ‘Star Wars.’ However, it didn’t come through. Still passionate about his idea, he went on the arduous task of creating his interplanetary action film.

Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Shares Similarities With ‘Star Wars’
Zack Snyder is aware that ‘Rebel Moon’ shares visual and storytelling similarities with ‘Star Wars.’ Hence it would be no surprise to learn that Snyder’s latest sci-fi epic was initially pitched as a ‘Rated R Star Wars Film.’ But in a recent interview with Empire, Snyder talked about the film never about and led him to make something more personal.
The director of ‘Watchmen’ and ‘Army Of The Dead’ told the magazine, ” The sale [of Lucasfilm to Disney] had just happened. There was that window where, you know, who knows what’s possible? I was like, ‘I don’t want any of your characters. I don’t want to do anything with any known characters, I just want to do my own thing on the side.’ And originally I was like, ‘It should be rated R.’ That was almost a non-starter.”

‘Rebel Moon’ Plot Details
Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ is inspired by films of Akira Kurosawa and ‘Star Wars’ mythology. Kora recruits a team of fearless warriors to atone for his past sins. As the forces of Mother’s World find their way to the moon of Veldt, Kora and his warriors are the moon’s last hope against enemy invasion.
‘Rebel Moon’ features an ensemble cast that includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, and Doona Bae. Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Jena Malone, Fra Fee, Ed Skrein, and Anthony Hopkins form the supporting cast. Hopefully, The film is going to debut on Netflix on December 22, 2023.
