Kanye West, now known as Ye, has been involved in legal issues that have taken a new twist following a court decision that involved work on his posh Malibu estate.
What started as a one point seven million dollar lawsuit by a former project manager has now resulted in West paying a large sum of money in damages and legal expenses.
Kanye West Ordered To Pay Damages And Legal Fees

Although the verdict at the end of the case dismissed most of the charges against the Ye, the result still makes him liable to pay out, which is estimated to be over $1 million, including legal expenses. The case illuminates the complex renovation project that was associated with the 57-million-dollar Malibu mansion owned by West and the bizarre working conditions that were outlined in the trial.

The case started when Tony Saxon, a former employee who had worked on the beachfront property in Malibu, sued him in 2023, claiming compensation of $1.7 million. Saxon alleged that he was hired to assist in the renovation work on the huge estate, but claimed that a number of labor laws were being violated when he was employed.
As per the allegations, Saxon alleged that West did not pay him the right wages and subjected him to inhumane working conditions in the property. In legal documents, he claimed that he occasionally slept on the floor in a sleeping bag as well as a security measure for the house. Saxon also alleged that he was injured during his employment in late 2023.
West’s legal team vehemently denied these claims, saying that the ex-employee had not suffered any injury or loss of money at the hands of the rapper. By the time the case was finally brought to a verdict, the jury ruled out most of the claims made by Saxon. The court denied claims of lost wages, overtime compensation, retaliation damages, and punitive damages.
Why The Final Payment Is Still So High

Although the jury dismissed most of the assertions, it did award Saxon $140,000 in damages on the basis of injuries he claimed he sustained in the course of working on the premises. That amount, in itself, may have appeared relatively small in comparison with the initial lawsuit. However, the legal expenses were very high, and this added to the overall price.

Since West will also have to pay the attorney fees for Saxon, the overall amount paid out in relation to the case is likely to increase to over 1 million dollars. That financial blow is another installment to the controversies that have surrounded the rapper in recent years. In his testimony, West allegedly responded in short form in court and even said that he hardly recalled hiring Saxon.
His wife, Bianca Censori, also testified, saying that she had only briefly worked with Saxon on the renovation project. For West, the case can be legally closed. However, the narrative of the problematic Malibu renovation, and the headlines it generated, is not going to disappear soon.
