One of the key figures in why the Marvel Cinematic Universe became a pop-culture behemoth, is Kevin Feige. It was his vision to expand the Cinematic Universe by bringing the Comic Book characters, which were not licensed to other studios, on celluloid. He became the President when ‘Iron Man‘ kick-started Phase I of the universe. Around the same years, Warner Bros. and DC Comics emerged as their cinematic rivals.
At present, Marvel Studios has become more financially viable, and Warner Bros. is faltering to decide the future of the DCEU. However, there is a ray of light as the new CEO David Zaslav has some ideas to revamp the universe. As per a new report, Feige almost jumped the ship from Marvel to DC due to the former CEO Ike Perlmutter.
Kevin Feige Wanted To Escape Marvel Due To Isaac Perlmutter
With the emergence of OTT, Marvel is soaring high in the digital arena due to its shows on Disney+. This partnership originated in 2015 when Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios declared a merger. This brought a sigh of relief for Feige. The merger meant he will no longer be answerable to Ike Perlmutter.
As per a report, Feige felt that Ike was restricting the franchise, and it irked him so much that he got into serious talks with Warner Bros. Pictures. The report stated, “Zaslav could make another run at Feige, who, I’m told, talked pretty seriously with Warners a few years ago when he was angling to escape the oversight of Marvel’s then-madman C.E.O. Ike Perlmutter. (Iger and Horn ended up siding with Feige, smartly.)”
It continued, “And Warners has in the past reached out to Louis D’Esposito and other key Feige deputies, with no luck… Zaz has been looking, but given Feige’s stature in town and the inevitable comparisons between Marvel and DC, this is among the most thankless high-profile gigs in entertainment.”
What To Expect Now?
Now, with the new merger between Warner Bros. Pictures and Discovery, CEO David Zaslav may have some grand plans to revamp the glory of the DCEU. He wants to revitalize the universe with the grand pomp. Recently, reports said that Zaslav approached Todd Philips to fill in the shoes of the advisor.
He wants Todd to “do more in the DC Universe.” Previously, David believed that the DC comics live-action is “lacking coherent and brand strategy.” He thinks that the characters left to languish like Superman must be revitalized with better standalone of the secondary characters.
